As we draw closer to the December release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the final entry in the polarizing DCEU, two new TV spots have surfaced that originally aired during the NBA season kickoff. Check them out below.
While the film was plagued by rumors of behind-the-scenes turmoil, director James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) recently went on record to refute those claims, calling them "noise" generated to elicit clicks.
He also went on to add that he'd be game to return for a third entry, but that's looking increasingly unlikely as the most prevalent rumor surrounding the film's lead star, Jason Momoa (Dune, Fast X), is that he's signed on to portray Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran's revamp of the DC cinematic universe.
However, if the Aquaman sequel proves successful at the box office, don't rule out WB singing up Wan to helm one of the previously announced titles that comprise Chapter 1 of Gunn's Gods and Monsters reboot. Given Wan's horror roots, he'd likely feel right at home taking on the planned Swamp Thing film.
The film is directed by Wan and written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2, Aquaman). Momoa stars as Aquaman, Patrick Wilson (Watchmen, Insidious: The Red Door) portrays Orm Marius, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, The Matrix Revolutions) plays the menacing Black Manta, and Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Big Little Lies) returns as Aquaman's mother, Atlanna.
The film also stars Amber Heard (The Stand, The Danish Girl) as Mera, Dolph Lundgren (Expend4bles) as Nereus, Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett) as Tom Curry, and Randall Park (WandaVision) as Dr. Stephen Shin. Additionally, Pilou Asbæk (Ghost in the Shell, Uncharted) has an undisclosed role in the film.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits North American theaters on December 20, 2023.
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
