A petition asking Warner Bros. to remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2 has now passed 900,000 signatures. The actress is currently working on Zack Snyder's Justice League as reshoots continue, and is expected to return in the Aquaman sequel which is tentatively dated for a 2022 release.
Like ex-husband Johnny Depp, Heard has been embroiled in a legal battle with the recently fired Fantastic Beasts star. Recently, a U.K. judge decided that The Sun was right to brand Depp a "wife-beater," but a long list of damaging allegations were also levelled at Heard during the widely covered court case and neither of them came out of that looking good.
The petition, titled "Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2," is gaining traction, and levels some damaging claims at the actress.
"Amber Heard has been exposed as a domestic abuser by Johnny Depp," it reads. "In his $50 million lawsuit, Johnny Depp describes many incidents of domestic abuse that he suffered at the hands of his (then) wife Amber Heard, including one incident where she punched him twice in the face and another where she shattered his finger with a vodka bottle, and his finger had to be surgically reattached. He will bear the scar from that for the rest of his life."
It goes on to point out that Heard was arrested in 2009 for an alleged domestic abuse attack on her former partner. While the petition was clearly started by fans of Depp, it might be difficult for Warner Bros. to ignore how many people seem to no longer want the actress to continue playing Mera.
