Though it's not confirmed, it appears as if James Wan is being lined up to helm one of the upcoming DC Comics movies for Warner Bros., and it sounds as if it might just be Shazam! That's an assumption on our part, but his relationship with New Line and the fact that he's worked with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (a.k.a. Black Adam) on Fast & Furious 7 could be another hint. Deadline broke the news in their piece about Wan coming back to helm The Conjuring 2, and quote New Line President and CCO Toby Emmerich as saying, "New Line has always been a big believer in great filmmakers emerging from the horror genre, and he has the potential to grow like Frank Darabont did, from writing A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 to writing and directing The Shawshank Redemption. James will make an important movie for New Line and Warner Bros or DC, and that is definitely part of the plan, and a reason for bringing him into the family. He’s the only overall director with a deal here, because we see him as a class of one." Wan seems like a great fit for a comic book movie, and Warner Bros. are smart to scoop him up before Marvel or anyone else. What woud you like to see him direct? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

So it's gonna be Shazam because of his ties to New Line?

Neato. Dude's directed some pretty good stuff and even though I despise The Conjuring and the praise it gets it was a well shot film.

He wouldn't be a bad fit for something along the lines of Shazam, but that's pretty far away to try and snag a director.

I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Lin dip into the CBM "genre" either.

He can do whatever he wants, as long as he stays the [frick] away from Wonder Woman. Doug Liman is perfect for that. :P

I liked The Conjuring.

As far as what he will direct....

I guess Wonder Woman is the logical choice so it's the only DC film within the next three years without a director...

Damn.

Looking forward to whatever they give him. I'm really curious to see Fast 7 just to see what he does outside of horror.

Wonder Woman is the movie they need a director for ASAP. And yes...Penny Marshall should direct it.

I want Shazam in the same universe with Man of Steel and BvS. The 'Black Adam' Rock Vs. Henry 'Superman' Cavill would be awesome battle scene. Please, make it happen DC/WB!

Has anyone considered an unannounced Vertigo property? Look at his filmography.

Wan is great. Saw, Dead Silence, Death Sentence. All great films. I think he'd be best suited for a Hellblazer or Swamp Thing movie, but pretty sure he can handle any DC property.

Can't wait to see how Shazam and Superman interact in the DCCU, since the films are connected.

Newline has a multitude of DC projects. They have Shazam and the Vertigo Films. I feel like he has one of the Vertigo properties. Not something from the DCU

FordEl - 10/21/2014, 1:18 PM
@Jordanstine

It is. Thats why it was announced along with the rest of the DCU films. The Vertigo films are a whole separate batch of films coming with their own slate which New Line is also handling

Awesome! Shazam is my most anticipated DC film, hopefully James Wan will knock it out of the park.
