AVENGERS: ENDGAME - A Dozen Alternate Means Of Time-Travel In The Film Have Been Revealed

Perception worked on Avengers: Endgame, and the design lab has now shared some alternate time-travel theories from the movie, including "Time Personified" and "Borrowed Soul." These are fascinating!

You probably haven't heard of Perception, but they're described as a cutting edge design lab that pioneers the "visionary process of Science Fiction Thinking to architect the future." Dividing their time between science fiction and science fact, they work with filmmakers on movies like 2019's Avengers: Endgame

They contributed towards the movie's time-travel explanation, and on their website, Perception has shared a dozen different theories for how it could work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You can see the full gallery at their website, but among the variations discussed below are Time being a physical being (with some major nods to the comic books) and the souls of the heroes travelling from their bodies into their past selves, meaning they don't physically travel through time.

"The team at Perception was focused on the mechanics of how it might work, what it might look like, and how you would explain it," they reveal. "Perception also assisted the filmmakers with exploring ideas surrounding scientific considerations, technology-based concepts, and potential narrative influences."

@BlackBeltJones - It makes sense. Chris Nolan explained it best in Interstellar.

The pym particles must have altered their mass to a quantum point where they were able to squeeze through a moment of relativity that is similar to theirs. But since time is relative and cannot go back, when they return they are returning to another timeline as well. So the moment the avengers left they never returned to that same moment or same MCU we knew but an alter dimension that was just similar to it. Time travel is similar to warp speed, you are passing through another dimension, not just bulldozing through mass particles or atoms.
1 of my favorite anime's Space Dandy explained Warp speed too and its similar to time traveling

Some high-res where I can zoom and read the concepts would be nice...

"Keepsake Navigation" would've been VERY interesting and would've created some more entertaining complications, especially if one or more of the keepsakes had its particles manipulated

I do feel sometimes that time travel in Endgame was a little too simple and safe. I realize that was to make it palatable and set the stage for more natural diversions (like in NY) but something a little less predictable would've heightened the tension and urgency

@OmegaDaGrodd - agreed. It was super safe even the no do overs was done over.

As far as the overall narrative of every mcu movie, I'm happy with what we got. They were able to wrap up a myriad of character arcs, Tony's dad issue was one of the best, but Time travel could've been better. It seemed like it took Tony less effort to solve time travel than it did to make the Ironman suit with a box of scraps

@OmegaDaGrodd - the movie is already set to be a finally to a 20 movie franchise, where it needed to pay off many characters and story threads, I think making the time travel simpler was good for the audience and pacing sake.

Keepsake Navigation sounds like it would’ve added a unique emotional depth and urgency to the time traveling.

Damn now I kind do want to see that. Feige, let’s get a What If...episode with this.

@GeneralCipher - Why not add the keepsake nav to your idea of the other half surviving?

New set of heroes surviving, new method of time travel along with them?

Seems like a fun think tank to work for.

The keepsake navigation makes no sense. Like how would you know which specific point in time a random object would take you?
Nebula

@FinnishDude - Ah yes, but Quantum Realm navigation makes sense just fine.

@FinnishDude -

That's the fun of it. Some items (like Cap's shield or Tony's reactor) are easy to peg. Others are just vague estimates, which makes things 10x crazier
