The Avengers Will Reassemble
"They’re fractured at the start of the movie," Joe Russo explains when asked where we find Earth's Mightiest Heroes after the events of Captain America: Civil War. "It was always the intent, in a larger arc, to split the Avengers up before the greatest threat that they’ve ever seen. Thanos is a virtually indestructible character, which makes him an extremely difficult character to fight."
Anthony Russo adds: "In the face of this, it’s like, ‘Can you overcome the divisions that have developed between you to face a common cause?’ That’s really the question." With that in mind, we'll no doubt see Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor side by side by the time all is said and done as the heroes put their differences aside and once again assemble to tackle a common threat.
The Vision "Is A Living MacGuffin"
Captain America brings The Vision to Wakanda in order to protect him from Thanos and that means the fictional African nation is about to be invaded for the first time. This will mark Earth's last stand and as the Mad Titan gets closer, The Vision is reportedly left in agony, a sign perhaps that the Power Stone on his forehead is calling out to the other Stones and wants to be reunited with them.
"Vision is a living MacGuffin," Anthony Russo says. "Obviously, that raises the stakes because Vision’s life is in danger, and his life is in conflict with Thanos’ goals, so something’s got to give."
The New Science Bros Dynamic
The Science Bros are, of course, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner but expect Doctor Strange and Wong to join the group in Avengers: Infinity War. "I love how Cumberbatch just comes in and kind of draws flaming circles anywhere and can basically step into your movie," Robert Downey Jr. says.
"That’s fun. And we wanted to keep a little bit of the Science Bros thing alive, even though Ruffalo has been on such an amazing Banner/Hulk journey himself. I really, really, really enjoyed getting to know and work with and play around with Benedict as Strange. Benedict Wong also, by the way is fantastic." That's going to be a fun dynamic to see play out on the big screen.
Bucky Is Now The White Wolf
Ever since Bucky was referred to as "The White Wolf" at the end of Black Panther, fans have been speculating about what that could mean. Was it a random throwaway line or is that the former Winter Soldier's new persona? Well, it's now been confirmed that Captain America's former sidekick does indeed have a different identity and when he teams up with Rocket during the movie's final battle, the Guardian will have a serious obsession with getting his hands on the hero's arm!
The Fall Of Titan
Kevin Feige reveals that Thanos' home planet of Titan is now abandoned after he was stopped from doing what was necessary to save it. We've also learned that Avengers: Infinity War will feature flashbacks to the Mad Titan's youth, expanding his backstory and shedding some light on why he's spent his life hunting down the Infinity Stones and becoming the Marvel Universe's greatest villain.
Thanos' Master Plan
In Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos is convinced that the universe is dying and needs his help, hence why he enacts a master plan to save it...by using the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all known life. The Mad Titan doesn't want the universe to suffer the same fate as Titan, hence why he feels that killing billions is what's best for the universe. The only thing standing in his way is the combined might of The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Wakanda's army.
Pepper Potts Remains An Important Part Of Iron Man's World
Pepper Potts was brought back to Tony Stark's world in Spider-Man: Homecoming and we can expect that relationship to flourish in this movie as well. "Pepper remains the heart of the [Iron Man] story," Robert Downey Jr. explains. "I think we wanted to get back to that reality. Not just for them, but let’s really see how that can add to the something-worth-fighting-for of it all."
Rhodey Is Still Recovering
Rhodey was paralysed in Captain America: Civil War and started what looked like a slow road to recovery at the end of that movie. Here, we see that he's still wearing the leg braces created for him by Iron Man, a sign that he's never fully healed. However, we know that he'll be suiting up as War Machine to join the battle against Thanos but has he now put his differences with Cap aside?
The Third Act Takes Place Entirely In Wakanda
Wakanda was featured heavily in the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity War and it's now been revealed that the entire third act takes place in the fictional African nation. That's sure to annoy fans who think Marvel give too much away in trailers but bear in mind that it's also been confirmed that the Thanos moon throwing scene is set on Titan, so chances are we'll see some of the action take place there too.
The Hulk's Arrival On Earth
As suspected, The Hulk's arrival on Earth will come when he crashes into Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. The question is, is that deliberate or pure coincidence? We'll have to wait and see what happens when Thanos attacks Thor's ship but the Jade Giant is probably sent there by the God of Thunder after he met the Sorcerer Supreme in Thor: Ragnarok last year.
Thanos Might Be The Smartest Man In The Galaxy
You might be heading into Avengers: Infinity War thinking that Earth's Mightiest Heroes will outsmart Thanos but he's dummy according to Josh Brolin. "You see this lughead and this guy who you pigeonhole right from the first cosmetic reaction to him. And what I see is this in this guy’s eyes. This super, super, super intelligence. There’s this constant contrasting thing about this Neanderthalic lughead who’s way more intelligent than anybody else in the movie, by far."
Captain America's New Shields
Whether or not Captain America will get his original shield back at some point in Avengers: Infinity War remains to be seen but those two new shields he's rocking here were indeed created by Shuri and are made from Vibranium. Chadwick Boseman notes that the rare material used to create his first shield was probably stolen but giving Steve these new versions is a sign that the two heroes have bonded. "Me actually giving it to him is a testament to our relationship and trust."
Tony Stark Has His Arc Reactor Again
Fans have been wondering for a while if Tony Stark has his arc reaction again in Avengers: Infinity War and it's now been confirmed that he does. However, it's not there to save his life; instead, "the reactor is the suit, and allows it to spread out across his torso and limbs." Those rocket thrusters on his back are, as many fans suspected, going to be used to help him fly through deep space.
Expect To Say Goodbye To Some Fan-Favourite Heroes
"People need to be careful what they wish for," says Kevin Feige on characters dying and staying dead in Avengers: Infinity War. That means we should probably brace ourselves for some fan-favourites to meet their maker at the hands of Thanos and they won't necessarily be resurrected with a wave of the Infinity Gauntlet when Avengers 4 rolls around next year.
Captain America And Thor, Reunited
We know that the God of Thunder is going to spend most of the movie tracking down the Stormbreaker alongside Rocket and Groot but the magazine confirms that Thor will be reunited on the plains of Wakanda when Earth's Mightiest Heroes come together to do battle with Thanos' Outriders as they attempt to protect The Vision from the Mad Titan (The Mind Stone will presumably be the last one he needs to complete the set and enact his plan).
Everything Changes After Avengers 4
Asked how Avengers: Infinity War will reshape the tone of future movies, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige promises that nothing will be the same after this and Avengers 4 are released.
"You start to think differently about how the characters are interacting, what character’s stories are coming to a close, and what character’s stories are only just beginning. Those stories will continue," he promises. "I think they’ll continue in surprisingly different and unexpected ways after these two Avengers films." What those will be obviously remain to be see for now...
