AVENGERS: Joss Whedon is Gonna Deliver the Goods!

These are my reasons why Joss Whedon is gonna deliever and bring not only possibly the best CBM of the year, but also maybe movie of the year and ultimate action flick and best Marvel film.

Let me get this out of the way, for as much as I am a fan of Marvel, it's a sin I never read an Avengers comic. But I know enough to know about the team and here are my reasons Joss Whedon is gonna blow us away in little over a month (God the wait is killing me!!)

Filmography: When you look at Joss Whedon's filmography, sure he's more well known for alot of T.V shows but in reality he has done some successful films outside it. He's written the first Toy Story film (the best of the three, thought I would state the obvious), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, ect. He's made some great shows and written some amazing films. But it's because of his writing ability and because he's also in the directors chair and when you look at his filmography that he will NOT let us down.

He has also been praised for the writing he did for the Astonishing X-Men. Hell, he's gotten awards for it. So you know that he knows how to make strong characters and he knows how to handle the Marvel Universe. Add on top of that the cast of actors as the Iconic heros, their great actors. Well, Samuel L. Jackson is amazing but that's besides the point. He knows his vision, he knows what he has to do to make an impact on the CBM's of today and truely deliver and not disappoint when bringing the first superhero team up on the big screen. I'll be honest I never really knew him until I realized 1: He wrote one of my favorite disney movies and 2: Well for a season or two he was in That 70's Show. Now I know it isn't alot but just look at his filmography for films and television. Plus look at his accolades for the work he has done, is not by any means Christopher Nolan. But there is no question that he is the man that is gonna make the fans' biggest dream come true as he treats us to Marvel's The Avengers.

Now, am I saying this movie will be the best of the year or the decade? No. Am I saying it's gonna be better than The Dark Knight Rises? No. But I feel this film has the potential from this one man, to be something that has not been seen in film and could be what the comicbook fan needs. Not a new hero on the big screen, but a new fresh take on some of the most beloved superheros of all time. But we won't know until May 4th.

I don't understand why people underestimate Whendon. The guy has wrote award winning tv shows and wait for it....comics. His run on Xmen is clearly one of the best runs I have ever read. So yeah just because he directed just one movie don't mean Avengers is going to flop.

I don't understand it either. I see people saying crap like Whedon is just gonna fill this movie with explosions, CGI, and no plot. What they forget is that Joss is a writer first and foremost. That's his main goal when working on something, getting the story right. I guess it's just a case of people judging a movie from the previews and not viewing it before making an opinion. Trust me, Joss will deliver!

@TonyChu & rockerdude22: People under estimate him because they clearly never heard of him and if their DC fans more than likely because of previous Marvel films like Ghost Rider, it'll be just action and the story and script would suck. I believe Joss is gonna change CBM's forever.

You forgot 'Dollhouse'.

Joss has a very thorough understanding of what needed to be done, as did the actor's.

Lucas wasn't a household name either before Star Wars, so maybe this is Joss's SW:New Hope.
He's gonna kick everyone's a** this summer, and Jackson will do the same this fall with the Hobbit.
Nuff' said.

This is beyond Joss Whedon. Kevin Feige and folks at Marvel Studios have full control. And they sought nothing less than extraordinary with THE AVENGERS.

Wasn't it you that wrote a biased article not too long along that Avengers will be better than Dark Knight Rises?
Then, you say Avengers could be the movie of the year, but then you say it probably won't be better than TDKR.

All that aside, Whedon will deliver.

Robert Downey Jr. is the best actor in this upcoming movie not SLJ.

It has already been established that the cinematography/filmography will be TV style.
Except for the action scenes, I imagine

@Marvel72 He was nominated with like 7 other writers.

@marvel72

Didn't Joss Whedon have three other co-writers on Toy Story, too? :P

@Supes17

I see that, too. Wish the fans would realize that the content in the shot is epic, but compositionally, it's generic and not well thought out. I'm not saying that's bad-- but a better cinematographer and director who wasn't so comfortable with TV aspect ratios would of made this once-in-a-lifetime film even more epic.

But lost to the great script of The Usual Suspects.

Ah, you said it before me, lol. I knew he had a lot of co-writers but I wanted to have an exact number.

Yeah, Toy Story had alot of writers. That was one of the few times a script with more than three writers worked.

Currently, Cabin In The Woods has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So yeah.:-)

I don't think he came up with the story, I think he just wrote the script with his co-writers.
Still, the guy is pretty talented

What's that saying? "Haters gonna hate"?

Some people will find any little flaw they can just because they can. Some people are picky, some got bad taste, some are too demanding.

But, I think this movie will be highly successful. There is little evidence for the contrary. I wouldn't even be surprised if it ends up being the most successful CBM this year. It might not be the CBM version of Citizen Kane, but it has a perfect formula for attracting viewers. It might be just a "popcorn" movie, but 99% of the people are not looking for thought-provoking, drama-rich films, they just want entertainment. And THAT, The Avengers will provide in great quantities.

When I go to see The Avengers, I don't want to see Dr. Banner dramatically explain his continual torture and terror about being a monster. I want to see Hulk smash stuff.

LOL we already got that in Hulk (2003)

@Supes17 has a point. A sad, sad, true point. Did you guys ever hear about all the different stuff they were gonna have in that movie before they finally made it after 13 years in development hell?

I'm always amused when people denigrate "popcorn" movies in contrast to "thought-provoking dramas," because a great popcorn movie is equal too a great drama.

Don't you have more fond memories of great popcorn fare like "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Empire Strikes Back," "Jaws" than the Oscar-nominated films of the past 10 years?

The movies that make us fanboys (and girls) are those that have awesome CRAZYZOMG moments on top of a firm understanding of human relationships and psychology. And I'm super-duper excited for "The Avengers" because Whedon is one of those guys who get that.
