Chris Evans Rehashes On the Character Arc For 'Captain America' In The Avengers!

Although he doesn't say much more that what we've already heard on the topic, the 'Captain America' actor once again dots on the character's "struggles" in The Avengers!

Promoting his drama flick Puncture with Backstage, what's an interview lately with Chris Evans, if his leading role in Captain America: The First Avenger, and reprisal in The Avengers isn't brought up? Not much of an interview at all I reckon. Anyhow, the actor recently rehashed on 'Steve Rogers'' character arc.

"Steve Rogers is a tricky character to play because he doesn't have too much conflict," says Evans. "He's such a selfless person. There's very little that can rattle him. If [your character] doesn't have conflict, it's easy to become boring. It's nice [that in the upcoming film 'The Avengers'] he struggles a little bit. He struggles with being a fish out of water. He's from the '40s; he's from a different mentality. Today the world is text messaging and impersonal and selfishness, and in the '40s there was much more of a human connection and camaraderie among the country. It's an old-fashioned way of thinking. So I think he's struggling with trying to find his place in modern day."

I know we've known for some time now that the film would explore the "fish out of water" dynamic, but just hearing Evans say "text messaging" makes me wonder how deep they'll go. I just hope theres a little "oh, how does that work" left for Steve Rogers in the Captain America sequel. What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki Laufeyson), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

I agree with Brazilianbatman, there is so much stuff they can do, so much of the world they Steve is going to have to experience and learn about. One being our history, he never got to see the end of the war, so I would like for him to have some kind of history lesson.

It sounds like a set up for conflict between Cap and Iron Man. How would this guy from the 40's relate to a guy who is the most futuristic person in the world as well as a hedonist.

@RABB1T I agree. The world has changed a lot since the 40s, and I would love to see Cap's reactions to that. It would be classic seeing Steve Rogers hearing gangsta rap or trying to use an iPhone.
