Chris Hemsworth Calls THE AVENGERS "Misfits"

Chris Hemsworth Calls THE AVENGERS "Misfits"

The actor who plays Thor in Avengers Assemble tells Entertainment weekly that his character is not that odd compared to his other teammates.

As you might have seen, Marvel recently released a brand new poster for The Avengers which was extremely stale and boring. So as you would suspect we have a rather stale and boring interview from EW about Thor in Avengers Assemble.

Thor, who went from an immature cocky warrior to a mature leader in about five minutes in his debut film, will continue to be mature. No way!

“There’s a maturity to the character because of the journey he went on, certainly. He was a petulant sort of kid at the beginning of Thor, and by the end of it hopefully you walk away thinking that he is matured and there was a grounded quality to him that wasn’t there before.”

Remember that fish out of water humor that went over so well in the first film? Expect more of that.

“There are certainly moments where Thor says things and there’s a sideways glance from everybody: ‘What the hell is this guy talking about?’”

“He’s not quite the odd one out as much as he was in Thor. These guys … one of them wears an iron suit, one of them turns into a big, green monster. They all have these crazy personalities, and alter egos. They’re misfits, and that’s how they fit, in a funny way.”

By the way the UK title change of Avengers Assemble is like calling the next Hulk movie, "Hulk Smash." You don't use catchphrases as titles, I'm sorry, you just don't do that.

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

nailbiter111 Chill dude. It's still called Marvel's the Avengers in the U.S. I think.

As for the interview, cool I was hoping Thor would continue his character growth in from Thor, because it would be stupid if he just went back to where he was at the first of the film.

Why do people assume he only matured at the end of the movie? Don't you remember the scene where he's 'cuffed to a chair and Loki lies to him about his fathers 'death'? That's where it started.

@nailbiter111: If you'd done even a few seconds worth of looking into why the title in the UK incudes "Assemble" in the title, you would have seen that it's to make sure people differentiate this movie title from the old brit spy show and movie named "The Avengers". Says so in pretty much every article talking about the UK release.

And, if you don't like the material, why cover it? Besides trying to rile up the fans?

Are four separate news articles necessary to sum up quotes from ONE EW article?

Thor was rushed. Deleted scenes prove that.

Superman2013: Rewatch the scene in the SHIELD base where he's handcuffed to a chair. Everybody seems to miss the significance of that one. That's where he starts maturing.

I agree Thor felt rushed, but to make Thor's epiphany seem more believable, the movie shouldve been at least 3 hrs long or have a timeframe that fast forwarded to the near future showing his road to redemption so to speak.

Mad negetivity about Avengers.. I'm still excited to see this movie even with all the "Michael Bay explosions, Caps helmet, horrible Hulk cgi, stale posters.. Etc.." So much hate for a movie that's really doing more for the genre than any other super hero movie EVER!

hehe, just like that spoof sweded trailer:

Cap: "big man in a suit armor. Take that away, what are you?"
Stark: "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."
Thor: "hahahaha, I don't know what those words mean."

"The Avengers are supposed to be the mightiest if the mighty. Not a ragtag bunch of misfits. What Chris probably should have simply said is that there is tension and unfamiliarity within the group."

Have you read the Avengers comics? They were misfits and different personalities and egos at odds with each other. They came together as a team when it came down to it, but it doesn't change the fact they are a bunch of misfits. It took time for them to develop as a team and all get along and accustomed to their roles. Even so, they still end up having their challenges. I have no challenge with what Chris said. Different strokes I guess.

I think there is going to be some animosity towards each other when they first meet.
