Clark Gregg Talks The Avengers; Says 'Agent Coulson' is Required to 'Step Up!'

Teasing his 'S.H.I.E.L.D Agent Coulson' role in Marvel's The Avengers, make the jump for a quick video chat with Clark Gregg, declaring the film requires the character to "step up!"

Although we've seen a different side of 'Phil Coulson' in the recently-released Marvel One-Shot, the actor behind the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, Clark Gregg, reassured with MTV News that in Marvel's The Avengers movie, he's required to "step up" as well.

"There is so little I can say without either Marvel or Nick Fury choking me to death in my sleep," Gregg said. Gregg was, however, able to offer one helpful, if somewhat cryptic, hint. "I will say — as anyone who's seen the trailer knows — there's a reason we're trying to get all of these different, crazy superheroes in one room," the occasional S.H.I.E.L.D. agent teased. "It's because there's a threat that's formidable enough to require that they be in one room, and if that's going on, you better believe Agent Coulson's going to have to step up."

It's rumored that during the superhero ensemble flick's climatic battle, 'Agent Coulson' will get his time to shine, leading a group of lower-class S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents through calamity. And that, eventually, he'll get to show his "true colors." What do you think?

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

@RunDTC I completely agree. If there is one actor who completely embraces the attention and fanboyism (is that a word), it's Gregg.

After the last OneShot we've seen Coulson in his badassness. He's gonna show he's no sissy at some point of the movie, that's granted.

Didn't see the one shot but i personally hope he meets his end in the Avengers. Not because i hate him but because if someone kinda cool is supposed to die, i hope it's him. Other than agent duties, he doesn't serve an irreplaceable purpose.

He's become a great character.
His purpose, I'm guessing, will be to get the audience to relate to him as an every man so we can have perspective to the level of threat. Emotional barometer.
