Five Things You Might Have Missed In THE AVENGERS Super Bowl Trailer

Five Things You Might Have Missed In THE AVENGERS Super Bowl Trailer

Sometimes interesting details are lost to all the action in these superhero trailers. Hit the jump to see five things you might have missed (or overlooked)!

1) The tail of The Leviathan. Remember that call sheet which mentioned where "the Leviathan" came to rest in the street? Well this is probably our first glimpse of it:

Of course, the question which still remains is whether it's an actual creature, or just a ship made to look like one (a bit like dragons on viking boats)?

2) The enemy invaders. There's no certainty that they'll all look like this (the army could include multiple races after all), but the one that we can see reasonably clearly seems to have Skrull-like ears (either that or it's part of the armour/helmet design), blue skin, three toes, and a green patch (possibly glowing?) on the chest. None of the races in the comics would match these features exactly, but perhaps some artistic license has been taken? In that case, it's concievable that they might be Kree or Skrull warriors after all.

3) The portal in the sky. I think a lot of posters mistook this circle up above, which Iron Man is flying towards, for a mothership. In fact, it's a portal:

So, do the aliens have the technology to open up portals? Or is this the work of Loki? Either way, knowing where the portal goes would likely reveal the identity of those mysterious aliens.

4) What's clipped to Thor's belt? We see the lightning god landing on what looks like the quinjet, but what's that clipped to his side?

Is it his helmet? If so, why's he not wearing it? Has he been on a mission to retrieve something?

5) Triangle arc reactor. This is hardly a big revelation, but we can at least put to rest those claims of inconsistency between Whedon's film and Iron Man 2.

Tony still has the triangle arc reactor (which he developed thanks to his dad's insight) - the only difference is that the casing of his armour seems to change back to the circular design at some point during the film.

If you yourself spotted anything interesting in the trailer, or indeed have any theories regarding these pics, go ahead and post it in the comments section below!

Saw all of those but the Leviathan, but I still have no idea what you're talking about with Thor's belt, guess I'll just have to watch it again :)

4) I think that's just his pants

Yeah I noticed that earlier. I think Loki opens a portal from the top of the Chrysler building. You can then see Ironman flying up toward the portal and can see what looks like an alien ship.

6) Pure awesomeness...

That's a lot, no one missed that.

It looks like Iron man use both the armor with the round reactor and the triangle reactor in the new trailer. Maybe his new suit gets trashed and has to go back to the older suit.

Also the aliens kind of remind me of the aliens they used in the animated movie for the Ultimates.

I also don't know what you mean with the belt, can't make out a thing! But I did not notice the Leviathan tail, and that's a very nice close up of the alien too.

Forget the Kree or the Skrull, it's the BADOON! Anyone who have comics with the Badoon in it, look carefully at there faces, body shape and color. They look similar but just a updated version in the film. Check out Silver Surfer#2 when the Badoon invade NY.

Dont they just look like the frost giants to anyone else?

Good article. I didn't notice the portal or the potential tail.

I think Iron Man's armor from IM2 is damaged or destroyed in the initial fight in the woods. Perhaps Hulk or Thor render the armor un-useable

yeah they look like frost giants

Just a guess:

The Leviathan
The "Blue Skin"
The Portal could be shooting up from something like
Atlantis?

Namor and the Atlanteans?

The aliens are blue skinned so maybe they are Kree?

Someone brought it up before but now I'm starting to think that it may be the Badoon afterall who are Loki's army

People moaning about the helmet really annoy me..

the Thor movie made it clear that the helmets are used mainly for ceremonial purposes they are not day-to-day wear.

Some others:

- Hawkeye is firing a grapple arrow as he falls.

- The fire blast scene (Cap is shielding BW and himself from it, but Thor is just standing there enduring it). It's possible this is fire from Leviathan.

- Hulk is likely leaping at Leviathan when he gets clipped by the passing ship.

- Also (and it's been pointed out to death), Black Widows wrist bracelets glow blue during that hero shot

@Avalanche731 Hulk is not too small....hes the best hulk to date!

Looks like frost giants w/ helmets and armor to me, perhaps allied w/ another alien race. Definitely frost giants though.

I believe its the sons of Muspell. The sons of Muspell during the Surtur Saga storyline come to New York via a portal near the top of the Empire State Building. In the trailer it's the Chrysler building but almost spot on!

@Avalanche731, according to Marvel Universe, Hulk is supposed to be 7'-8' tall. So in the two Hulk films, the Hulk was TOO BIG.
Clutchplayer

Did some research on the "Sons of Muspell" - sounds like these guys are the real McCoy...
1. Loki would have "ties" to them, and be able to gather them to attack our world
2. Puts Thor back in the picture in a major way
3. Laviathan could be Surtur, leader of the Muspell
4. and according to Marvel:
Surtur has been freed from imprisonment a few times over the years. The first time the Asgardian god of mischief Loki set Surtur free to wreak havok on Earth

smh..their skin DOES NOT look blue. They look metallic green and an ugly shade of purple. They look like freaking Annihilus..or Atlanteans, and maybe Badoon. It's definitely one of the three (related). DEFINITELY not blue. And Thor's belt, I don't see jack. I understand, the trailer was impressive, but you're starting to see things that aren't there..calm down.

Re Hulk, too small regardless of what comics say. I would rather it be consistent w/ TIH, which looked great (btw, despite official size whatever that means he is shown much, much bigger at times in the comics so they are wildly inconsistent anyway)

As to the aliens jumping off the ship, these r definitely frost giants, even the wikipedia page lists FG as part of the cast

Supermanofsteel - 2/6/2012, 9:15 AM
did you notice the size of the iron man arm and reactor in iron man´s assembly? Many people think could be the Hulk Buster Armor

look at the arm.... is HUGE...
aferna01
aferna01 - 2/6/2012, 9:21 AM
Did more research on the sons of Muspell and they are associated with the breaking of the Bifrost bridge, which we already saw happen in Thor, when Thor himself smashes the bridge with Mjilnor. In Norse mythology, it is the sons of Muspell who break the Bifrost bridge, which is a signal of the end times.
