JUMANJI Star Karen Gillan Agrees That Now Is The Right Time For An All-Female Marvel Studios Movie

Thanks to the success of Wonder Woman earlier this year, the door may finally open to more female-led superhero movies. We know that the likes of Captain Marvel and Silver & Black are already in the works but there are many other characters deserving of the spotlight. However, how cool would it be to see the women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally team-up for an epic adventure?

Well, it turns out that Doctor Who alum Karen Gillan joined Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Pom Klementieff (Mantis) and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) when they pitched the idea of a female-led team-up to Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.

"Brie Larson was like, ‘We should go up to Kevin Feige and tell him to make an all-female Marvel movie,’ so we marched up there in a group, a whole herd of us, and said that to him," the actress explains. "He was like, ‘Yeah, that would be amazing!’ but he didn’t really commit to it, but he thought it would be a great idea. Look at the success of Wonder Woman. It’s clear we all want that."

So, it seems it's a case of waiting and seeing then but chances are this movie could happen somewhere down the line, especially as these characters will meet in Avengers: Infinity War...

@MikeyL - Yes, but the last time, it was a Tessa Thompson quote with different wording, where she actually named the members of the group who went to talk to Feige. She named herself second in the group, and I made a joke about being impressed Tessa Thompson didn't put herself first in a sentence for once.

Now I'm wondering which article was accurate. Almost the same quote, same picture, same everything, except one was longer and attributed to TT. And at least 1 month old.

@MikeyL - That exact article yes (I didn't even notice), but a month ago there was another one sharing that exact photo, and another on the same subject with a quote from Tessa Thomson saying almost exactly the same thing. Here it is :

"When Thor: Ragnarok actress Tessa Thompson and some of her fellow MCU stars approached Kevin Feige about a possible spin-off featuring the established female heroes of the franchise, the Marvel boss seemed very receptive to the idea.

"I think in that group was Brie Larson, myself, Zoe Saldana, although she ran off to the bathroom, I think, so she came midway through the pitch but she had been in the rev-up to it. Scarlett Johansson. Pom [Klementieff] and Karen [Gillan], who are both in the Guardians movies. Yeah, I think it was that group.

We were just sort of all in a semicircle talking, and it just came up, because none of us really worked together – well, I suppose Zoe, and Karen, and Pom – and wouldn’t it be nice if we could all work together?""

What else is Karen going to say though? "I think the guys are doing a great job as it is, we already have too many women in Marvel movies".
