MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide; Tops THE DARK KNIGHT

It may have broken more records in North America this weekend (details on that can be found HERE) but it has just been revealed that Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble has now made OVER $1 billion worldwide!

Almost every day over the past week has seen analyst after analyst predict that Marvel's The Avengers would hit $1 billion by close of business on Sunday. Of course, the far more realistic and conservative estimates had it pegged at making around $950 million, instead crossing the landmark figure by tomorrow or Tuesday. Well, as you can see from the Tweets below (courtesy of one of the most trusted sites when it comes to box office reports) the film has now hit $1,002,100,000 in less than three weeks of release. That puts it at #11 on the list of all-time highest grossing movies, past The Dark Knight and well on its way to a much higher spot.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Ramanoff/Black Widow
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
Tom Hiddleston as Loki

RELEASE DATE: Out Now!

highest grossing film of all time by the end of the month. Here's hoping anyway! Love this film! Sad to see TDK knocked down another peg on the list but totally worth it if Avengers reaches number 1!

Well, I salute Marvel on this day, and I eat my own words. I was wrong about my predictions for just a $750 million gain. It was a pretty great movie, I've seen it twice (one of those times ended with Red Robin. YUM!)
