We
revealed last week that signs were posted in several areas of New York City, alerting citizens that filming for "Group Hug", the working title for Joss Whedon's highly-anticipated film
The Avengers, was underway. While the signs hinted that official filming had begun, as assumed, it turns out it was just an empty plate shoot, which is essentially for background shots.
Therefore, while this shoot reveals progress, principal photography remains set for the first week of May, roughly three weeks away. In the mean time, check out a non-revealing image from the shoot below, via

On Location Vacation, filming is set to continue over the weekend, around 42nd & Lexington near Grand Central Terminal.

Also, interestingly, director Joss Whedon was
allegedly spotted working on the script at a Starbucks in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where set construction is well underway.
Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston & Stellan Skarsgård, the film releases May 4, 2012!
