The success of Deadpool just continues to pay off for all parties involved, including the character's creator, Rob Liefeld. He's now the recipient of a seven-figure movie deal for his Extreme Universe, which consists of his comic book creations Brigade, Bloodstrike, Cybrid, Lethal, Re-Gex, Bloodwulf, Battlestone, Baboom and Nitro-Gen. The specifics on the deal are still a bit hazy at this point so there are conflicting reports as to whether the deal also includes the rights to the more popular Liefeld creations Youngblood, Glory and Supreme.
In an official statement, Liefled commented, "Over the past nearly 25 years, since launching Image Comics, I’ve been lucky enough to see the power of these stories and characters as they’ve resonated with several generations of comic book fans. To now be able to work with Akiva Goldsman and Graham King, who are powerhouses in their own right, to bring these compelling characters and conflicts to life on the big screen is nothing short of a dream come true!"
Ponying up for these rights are a group comprised of Graham King of Fundamental Films, Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road Pictures and Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment. King and Goldman plan to set up a writer's room much in the same way that Goldsman oversaw a similar process for the Transformers franchise. The plan is to develop a few treatments or scripts before approaching the big Hollywood studios/distributors.
Hopefully, Liefeld sends at least a little of that money to Joe Kelly. None of this would have happened without the success of Deadpool and it was Kelly's run on the character that made him what he is today.
