Snagging the cover story for next month's Vanity Fair issue, actress Scarlett Johansson elaborated on various past events of her life including reprising her Iron Man 2 role, 'Natasha Romanoff,' Black Widow, in Marvel's The Avengers. Essentially discussing the intense training and fighting required for the highly-anticipated action-packed flick, read an except below.

“Even though Iron Man 2 was ‘one-for-them,’ I’d never done anything like that before. I’d never been physically driven in something, or a part of something so big,” Johansson recalled. “For The Avengers, I’ve spent so many months training with our stunt team, and fighting all the other actors, it’s crazy. I do nothing but fight—all the time. I have humongous muscles, by the way.” She offered me a bicep. I hesitated to touch celebrity flesh. “Go on.” I gave it a gentle squeeze. She was right; it was hard as a rock.

Marvel's The Avengers is the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner with Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.

@MalcomReynolds Since you are obviously a Firefly fan, you should be looking forward to this movie, as Joss Whedon wrote and is directing it.

I don't believe she trained that hard, she looked fitter in Ironman2. She's got a beer belly now.

She needs to be TOTALLY BADASS. One smile per movie (or for every ten kills), The Russian Accent, and absolutely NO weeping or slowing down the group. She gets hurt, she gets pissed (I think she should have a demeanor as if she could defeat the HULK if she had to). If any of that stereotypical "chick shit" happens, put her in a bikini and I'll be totally fine... Do that anyway...

You guys don't want a Black Widow movie. It's not that I don't like her, but she's one of the most uninteresting Avengers in terms of background and origins. She's GREAT in Daredevil, and pretty good in the recent five years of Avengers, but I just cannot see her being fleshed out as a lead character in her own standalone film.

What Marvel ought to do (and they absolutely have the means to do so) is have not "Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD", but "Agents of SHIELD" show where Nick Fury stars as the on-and-off director, but focuses on the groups' secret (and not-so-secret) exploits with emphasis on the team. It would be like the classic Mission Impossible, yes, but it would open so many doors and introduce so many characters. Black Widow could be a regular if the show hit it off.

@Froggy I know the new promo pic is another ass shot and her scene in the trailer is her posing while a bus explodes, but you should hold out. Maybe her part has more depth.

I´m wondering if adding the Black Widow, a "badass normal" was a miscalculation.

Guess it should be "Miss Marvel" ou there with Thor and Iron Man.

She was great in IM 2, but i was expecting a little more from the character in the plot... shame, 'cause she had everything to steal the show. *sigh* IM 2 could be so much better...

@Ziggggy, that's why most Nolan diehard fans don't dig marvel movies, they're not planted in reality as they think every comicbook movie should.

I for example loved her fighting style in IM2. To me those moves showed how a smaller chick could use the opponents weight against themselves.

Would be laying her out with a punch if they could connect a hit, which wasn't the case :P
