As Marvel's The Avengers big screen assembly has gone on to become "one of the greatest superhero movies of all-time", predicted to have the biggest opening box office weekend ever, peculiarly there isn't a tie-in console video game coinciding with the film's release. Of course, there was a game in the making with THQ up until the Australian studio was closed down. But now a hint at another console game has shown itself via Fusible.
"The Avengers video game looks to have a title — Avengers: Battle for Earth. On May 3, 2012, the domain name avengersbattleforearth.com (Whois) was registered through the brand protection company MarkMonitor. The name was registered by Marvel Characters, Inc. and is currently listed on Ubisoft’s nameservers: nic1.ubisoft.com and nic2.ubisoft.com."
Marvel's vice president of games production alerted us that announcements would unveil in the coming weeks, two weeks ago. And he also said that the Marvel: Avengers Alliance Facebook game was just the beginning of a much wider effort that'll support Marvel's The Avengers franchise with various "video game touch points."
With that said, the chances of Avengers: Battle for Earth being the next big console game is as likely as being another game developed for social networking of some sorts. However, with games such as the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time series, Assassin's Creed franchise, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon & Splinter Cell franchise under Ubisoft's belt, a console game for The Avengers seems more likely. What do you think?
