I'm going to wait until The Avengers Blue-Ray to watch the deleted scenes again. My favorite, and the best one was Man Out of Time.

GOOD THAT THEY DELETED THE SCENE, IT'S MORE BETTER SUITED FOR CAP 2, AVENGERS IS ABOUT AVENGERS.

I wish this scene could have stayed. And "summarilly" [sic] is a stupid word.

Fantastic scene. Chris Evans plays it brilliantly, but it is more suited for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

scene is better suited for a cap solo movie, but i wish it would have stayed just for that Stan Lee cameo.

Yeah good thing it was not in this movie they gave the Cap too much screen time anyway the story has to be more about the avengers...would be a great sceen in Cap sequel

This would've been a lot better than the flashbacks. This was the one thing that I've been saying the movie lacked since it came out. With this scene it would be able to stand on it's own two feet as a movie. As it is the only movie that is essential to watch beforehand is Captain America, which I thought was unfair. He is the building block of The Avengers universe and as such needed a slightly longer introduction than he had. It's all about the dominoes of reality, y'know? Storytelling 101. On this, Joss' first instinct was right. He really should've stuck to it. The flashbacks really don't explain what's going on. In fact, they just confuse. This gives a better explanation, we don't even need to know that he has been in suspended animation, just that he's not exactly mortal and that he's from the WWII. He's a super soldier and a man out of time. After that all the other character's short explainations fall into place. Hulk is the result of further attempts to recreate him, Starks a techno-genius who won't let anyone else have his technology (we find out later that he is also in need of it for his heart) and there are aliens that a covert government agency know about (Asgardians, The Chitauri) and they have special agents (Black Widow and Hawkeye). But it needed this scene first. Without it it is dependant upon the weakest of the previous films.
Director's Cut! Seriously.

Picked up the standard blu-ray/dvd combo pack of this along with the rest of phase one yesterday at Best Buy, will probably end up watching all the movies in a marathon session.

Whilst purchasing this blu ray I got so excited thinking about the helicarrier sequence that I sharted in the checkout line at Target and the cutie working the register..., oh yeah, she smelt it.

@DukeAcureds

Agreed. They should have kept the Cap stuff. The sequel is fleshing that out more, but still I felt this should've been left in. A lot of people that saw Avengers had not seen the other Marvel movies except for Iron Man. Hopefully there'll be a director's cut.

Great scene but I'm glad it's saved for Cap 2.

I agree with most everyone else that has seen this scene. It really belongs in the film. Not just because it gives us that little bit extra character backround on Cap but also because it originally fit so well in the film where it was intended to be and would have added to the flow.

If you recall right before this scene, Fury is argueing on the Avenger behalf with the security council members that they are the key to getting the teseract back from Loki. The scene ends with him saying "what we need are soldiers". At that point it would (and should) have cut to the begining of this scene which is newsreel footage of WWII with Cap and other soldiers. PERFECT! This is quite obviously Whedons intent. Instead it cuts to the end of this scene with Cap working out in a gym. Not quite so smooth if you ask me. The flow has actually been degraded by this scenes removal.

Wish there was some way for me to edit this back in on Blu-Ray. I'd make my own directors cut since they won't give it to me.

Ha1frican - 9/26/2012, 1:29 PM
@niknik im pretty sure this was meant to be the opening, so the Loki intro, the loss of the tesseract, and all the other intros would have to take place afterwards. if it was after the title sequence then you still have to get to every other character, and the gym sequence. Thats why it doesnt fit. While i love this scene almost everything would have been left hanging until TWS anyway so i say the one the went with is a much better and this is better saved for a film that can focus on this entirely

@niknik i agree this scene should have been left on the avengers ....it would of flowed in the film smoothly i get their reason for taking it out but it wasnt a good enough reason i think the good of leaving it in out weighs the bad.....

should have used this for the avengers. such a great scene now wasted. the only part they can really even use for cap 2 is him looking at the the folders of who's alive or dead. the rest just won't make sense

The Avengers was great as is. But after watching all the deleted/extended scenes all I have to say is "MARVEL TAKE MY FRIKKIN MONEY!" ... If they were to come out with an extended cut, with all these scenes finalized I'd totally buy it.

Nods to Cobie Smulders/Maria Hill all around. Her deleted scenes and gag reel bit were pretty good.

I liked this scene but if this was included, Cap would have much more screen time than anyone else. But it is a perfect idea to save it for The Winter Soldier.

I so wish they would've put these scenes in the movie. It sort of felt like: "Hey I thought i died, now I'm awake in a different time, but no time to deal with those emotions... There's an alien invasion to deal with."
I hope the sequel really touches on this, because i mean come onnnnnn.... Everything he new is basically almost gone

I disagree with the thoughts that the Man out of Time scene was a good cut and that Cap got "too much screen time". First, while Cap may have had more screen time in terms of being in a lot of shots, in many of them he is in the background or not part of what is going on. I would argue that Cap has less screen time than RDJ anyway. Second, this was not a good cut. Bruce and Tony got pretty extended "intro stories". Cap's intro story was basically the two minute long boxing gym brief. Poor Thor got like nothing (but at least he got to argue and throw down with his bro). I feel like the movie overall was weighted towards Tony and Bruce

Niiiice scene. Put me in the camp that thinks they should have kept this, and if running time was the issue, found something else to cut.
