After winning big at the MTV Movie Awards last night, Marvel's The Avengers director and cast members, Joss Whedon, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston, briefly discussed their future Marvel endeavors backstage. As Whedon seemed confident in his forthcoming sequel, Captain America star Chris Evans is excited to be filming The Winter Soldier.

"It's going well," Whedon said about writing The Avengers sequel. "It is. I'm very excited about it. I think it might be a better movie.". With Captain America: The Winter Soldier now filming, Chris Evans says, "It's nice coming to work feeling genuinely excited," Evans told MTV. "It's such a good feeling going to work with people you know. It's like a high school reunion or something."

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporer also caught up with Whedon at the MTV Movie Awards.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

@LEVITIKUZ Didn't you say that the other day? I'm not sure if it was about avengers 2 or something in comics, I may be mistaken.

As long as it doesn't play out like a Michael Bay film like the 1st one did, I'll be satisfied.

I wonder if they would dare end AVENGERS 2 on a cliffhanger that would not be resolved until AVENGERS 3. The most obvious idea would be that Iron Man goes missing (since his trilogy is over), but there are plenty of things that could happen which would serve as a driving force behind the rest of the PHASE 3 movies.

Chris Evans looks as big as he was for TFA and a lot bigger then he was during The Avengers, just hope he keeps this bulk for another year plus when Avengerd 2 starts shooting, but that's along time to keep all that muscle on.

Chris Evans does look bigger. He just needs to keep working out throughout the filming. He is definitely bigger than he was in Avengers.

It's funny listening to these guys when they talk about their movies. Marvel must really have some serious non disclosure jargon in the contracts. All the actors seem to struggle with even the basic of questions and ultimately give you nothing about the movies. Why so secretive? If fans want to spoil themselves then it's on them.

Marvel needs to work on their villains. They just have not produced a very 'threatening' villain yet. Because of that, I think their movies have not been great. They are all 'good' movies, but none have stepped into 'greatness' in my opinion.

I actually like the way Marvel has approached the villian vs hero screen time. When I watch a movie named after a hero, I want that hero to have more screen time than the villian. The first Batman film with Nicholson as the Joker should have been called "The Joker".

also it's time for them to add the war machine/iron patriot to the roster, need another "big gun" and "heavy-hitter" on the team.

I agree. Chris has even said he wanted to be in the Thor movie. Why would he say that if he didn't like playing the character. He's also very aware that the Cap roles allows him to play in smaller movies and pet projects. That's something most actors wish they had. Actors are just like you and I, they have different personalities. Some are shy, some just aren't the life of the party. Everyone can't be like RDJ.

"Can you say what enemy the Avengers are up against in this one?"

"Themselves, because we are all our own worst enemy."

Josh is so existential.

Chris Evans wants to be in Thor 2 because that would count as part of his six picture deal with Marvel. He said in another interview that a cameo in another movie would be one less movie for him to do. He wants out of this six picture deal as soon as he can. I'm not sure why he took the deal if he didn't really want to stick it out. After Avengers 3, we'll be getting a new Cap. And though I like Chris Evans, I don't feel like that's a bad thing.

@SpidaTrav
I watched the clip again and I don't see what you're saying. He's probably one of those people who are just awkward in interviews. Sometimes those are things you can't help. And the comment about Robert Redford was obviously sarcastic. Not getting where you're coming from.
@beane
I googled that Thor 2 cameo interview and he didn't say anything about that. Don't know where you got that from.

@SpidaTrav - as far as i remember Evans is not a spotlight loving person and is not big on doing major public promos but since he accepted the gig for his roles as Cap he may just well accept the fact that he's in there. i don't sense any negativity in being candid and truthful in what he does.
btw. Sam is just being himself, go blame Marvel for having that "gag" order. :D
