BATGIRL: It Appears The Project Remains In Development At Warner Bros. Following AT&T Presentation

Joss Whedon was once attached to write and direct Batgirl for Warner Bros., and while it's been a while since we've heard anything about Christina Hodson's take, the project still seems to be on the way.

Way back in March 2017, Warner Bros. announced that The Avengers director Joss Whedon was set to write, direct, and produce a Batgirl movie. The news was met with a positive response, and many felt it must be a sign he was knocking those Justice League reshoots out of the park for the studio.

How times change, eh?

The filmmaker ultimately delivered a Justice League movie which spawned the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, while he's also spent the past few years dealing with some serious misconduct allegations (with various cast members of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and most notably, Cyborg actor Ray Fisher speaking out against him).

It was in April 2019 we first heard that Birds of Prey and Bumblebee scribe Christina Hodson had been tapped to pen a new version of the Batgirl screenplay, but that's been it for a while now.

Well, during AT&T's Analyst & Investor Day 2021 presentation today, a tease of the DC slate - for both film and television - seemingly confirmed that Batgirl remains in the works. Everything else here we already know about, though Batwheels sounds like a pretty fun time (we're guessing that one is animated).

It does, however, appear that the long-rumoured Zatanna project on HBO Max is moving ahead as planned.

Hopefully, we'll have a solid update to share on Batgirl sooner rather than later.
