Cameras are now rolling on the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie, which will see Leslie Grace don the cowl of Gotham City's other Caped Crusader.

Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah took to Instagram to make the announcement, while giving us a first behind-the-scenes look at the set. The "Day One" photo features the official Batgirl logo, and comes to us straight from the desk of Officer Barbara Gordon.

This obviously confirms early reports that this version of the character will already be a GCPD officer when we meet her, and will most likely rise through the ranks to replace her father Jim Gordon as the new Commissioner.

Batgirl will also star J.K. Simmons as Jim Gordon, and Jacob Scipio and Brendan Fraser in undisclosed roles (the latter is believed to be playing the villainous Firefly). Loki composer Natalie Holt recently announced that she's signed on to work on the movie's score, while Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the most recent draft of the script.

DC FanDome gave us a first glimpse of some concept art, but now that production is underway, we might just get a look at some set photos in the coming weeks.
