Shooting officially wrapped on the upcoming Batgirl HBO Max movie back in April, and we're hearing that the first test-screening was held last night in LA. Several sources are reporting that the response from those who've seen the film have been very positive, and some new details have also found their way online.
While there's nothing too spoilery here, these plot points do give us a better idea of what to expect from the overall story and certain character dynamics, so if you'd rather go in knowing as little as possible, probably best to skip 'em.
Of course, we can't even be certain that any of the following is accurate, but we have been told the same things by a few different people, so make of it what you will.
Apparently, Batgirl and Michael Keaton's Batman will work as a team for a good portion of the movie, and they will have a "no kill rule." Nightwing and Black Canary do not appear, despite a poster of the latter being spotted in recent set photos. We're also hearing that Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman is referenced somehow, but we're not sure of the context.
The ending of the movie is reportedly reminiscent of the official concept art that was released last year, and will see Barbara Gordon don a new Batgirl costume. There's also whispers of a major cameo, but we don't have much more to go on.
Again, best to treat all of this as rumor for the time being, but we'll be sure to update if any more info comes to light.
In addition to Leslie Grace in the lead role, Batgirl stars Jacob Scipio and Ivory Aquino, with Brendan Fraser as Firefly, and J.K. Simmons reprising the role of Jim Gordon. Loki composer Natalie Holt announced that she's signed on to work on the movie's score, while Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the most recent draft of the script.
No official premiere date has been set.
