Details on some of the projects James Gunn and Peter Safran nixed when they took over as co-heads of DC Studios continue to come to light, and we have a feeling DC fans are going to be particularly disappointed about this latest development!
We recently learned that Birds of Prey and Batgirl writer Christina Hodson had been working on a solo Batman movie starring Michael Keaton (believed to be a Batman Beyond adaptation), and THR is now reporting that the film would have included a "resuscitation" of the romance between the Caped Crusader and Catwoman.
Would Michelle Pfeiffer have reprised her role as one-time lowly assistant (sorry, lowly secretary) Selina Kyle? The trade doesn't know for sure, but we have to assume the plan was to reunite the Batman Returns stars for a movie set in the same (or a similar) timeline.
THR adds that Gunn and Safran "know, and may even love, Terry McGinnis" and "may bring back Deathstoke," but this sounds more like speculation than actual insider info.
Is there any chance this project could be revisited? It's certainly possible, but it's hard to imagine the powers that be changing their minds anytime soon. The DC Studios co-heads are set to present their DC plan to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav next week, so we may get some kind of official announcement shortly after.
