A couple of hours ago, Mr.Ben Affleck was confirmed to be Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, BatmanVsSuperman or SupermanVsBatman, whatever title helps you sleep ;)

A lot of hate already in that article's comments...20+ pages so far...hoping it crosses 50 :D

After reading each and every comment, I see a pattern. Most of the guys who hate this casting is worried Ben cannot pull a great Batman. Hmmm....why? He starred in some very bad movies.You all know which one if I had to single out on one....**Cough**GIGLI**Cough**

Some guys are open to the idea of him playing the role. They seem happy and are sure Ben will do a great job.

The rest, wanna wait/give the guy a chance. Comparisons start flowing in on how Heath was hated when they announced him as the Joker or when Keaton was announced Batman decades ago.

As for me, what do I think? Does it matter what I think? Well, after reading this news today I could only think of one thing. Remember that Scott Adkins article? Where his rep confirmed that he auditioned for the role of Batman? That actually makes this whole thing seem full circle!

Now, Ben...I think at least 90% of the people here agree that he can pull off Bruce Wayne. Well, the guy does clean up well. He's got the looks and definitely looks great in a Suit and Tie.

Everyone's worried about his alter ego...BATMAN. Now here's what I think's gonna happen...

Ben will be playing Bruce Wayne and little bit of Batman, you know close ups etc. But when the action starts, Mr.Scott Adkins is gonna come in a do all the Ninja Stuff everyone always wanted to see in Batman. Just look up these two guys on the Internet...cover their eyes and look how close they look alike. If that is the case, and something tells me it is (God it better be), then it's a Win-Win situation for everyone. I think this could lead to a worthy successor of Nolan's Batman.

But I really wish they David Goyer gets replaced and they let Ben co-write this thing. We can do a lot better than David Goyer...We deserve someone better...!

Whether Scott Adkins does it or Ben does it, its a Zack Snyder movie. His fight scenes are gonna be top notch no mater if it's me doing the fight scenes. It's all in the fight choreography. No worries on the fight scenes.

And here's the start of three articles a day on Ben Affleck as Batman. I think he will be just fine.

@Wyleejay, 3 articles a day? I predict at least 10 articles in the next 48 hours, lol. Fanboy whining will eventually become so shrill and high pitched that only dogs (and Superman, lol) will be able to hear it.

I wanted a younger Bats as well but The Fleck is an awesome choice

I think he'll knock it out of the park and can give Snyder some, needed, creative input
A great director if ever chosen to helm the next Bat flick too

So what this means Ben Affleck is in the same boat as Steven Segal a guy that clearly does not look that he can do any to half the shit he is doing on the screen so he clearly has a stunt double doing every stunt for him. Awesome that is great just what you want out of an action hero.

He's only 41 (I thought he was in his mid 40s), so I think he'll be fine. Superman was 33 in MoS, this movie will probably be based a year to 2 yrs later, making him around 35. A 40-41 yr old Batman, 5-6 yrs older, should work out well. Better than using a mid 40s Brolin, who looks near 50.

Oh and dont get me started on this guy...

My biggest issue is that if this guy has been cast to be his stunt double that is going to completely take me out of the movie. All I am going to think about when I see Batman do anything is "Oh there goes Affleck's stunt double doing all his fight scenes.".

@3dWitchHunt

I don't like Daniel Craig as Bond not because he is bad he is actually quite good. The issue is he looks far to damn old to be playing young Bond. Bond in these movies just received his 00 license yet Craig just looks to old for this.

To me the issue has never been if he can look good because sure he can buff out and whatnot. My biggest issue is how are they going to get Affleck for at least 5 years probably 10 years doing not only BvS but JL movie and future Batman movies and JL movies. I just don't see Ben Affleck for one wanting to do this much and also just not able to in any feasible way. He will be just to old to keep playing Batman to see him fighting the way he does. Is WB going to keep replacing Batman. I just feel they should have found someone who can keep playing the role for the next 5-10 years to show real commitment to this. I just don't have faith in WB to give us a DC universe. This screams to me as being a one movie idea to get as much money as possible for BvS. I need more from WB to get me in anyway excited for a DC universe then promises of other movies and what seems to be a very short sighted casting choice.

Affleck should do his own stunts. I know that most have stunt doubles, but like someone said, I feel like knowing that's not Affleck would take me away from liking him as Batman because it would be someone else.

I think he's definitely capable of doing the stunts. I'm a little skeptical about him at the moment as Batman, but I will wait and see how he does it. He's a great director who knows his work, so maybe this will be his chance to finally shine bright. Plus I like the idea of having him direct future Batman movies, too. He has a great relationship with Warner Bros, and can definitely bring in the $$$$ for them.

I see this making a crapload of money. I just hope that the script is solid, but most of all, iconic and legend (wait for it) ary like the two characters are.

I see where your concerns stem from, but Affleck knew what he was getting into when signing up for the role.

Both he and WB are confident that he can carry on the role for the next couple of years. 5-10 years is very feasible for an actor even if he is in his early 40s. RDJ is the perfect example.

The Fleck looks great for his age, not to mention that his character is almost completely covered in black when in costume.

I don't see how Affleck is a move made to get more money. I mean, he's made some very well received films but its not as if he's a box office magnet. WB wanted an established actor and so they chose one.

And just like Marvel, and James Bond, the actors will be replaced. Know why? Because the characters sell. Iron Man will still make money after RDJ leaves just as Bond has after how many cycles of actors?

Lhornbk - 8/22/2013, 11:36 PM
@Pesmerga44, I agree, I have never understood all these people who think Craig is such a great Bond. I don't like him much as Bond at all. He does look too old, and really he just doesn't feel like Bond to me.

I agree about Affleck too. I would think (the press release didn't mention it) that WB signed him to at least a 2-3 movie deal. Maybe more. He should be fine through at least 4 films, assuming they don't spread them too far apart. (If this is just a 1 movie deal, then WB is stupid.)
pesmerga44
pesmerga44 - 8/22/2013, 11:42 PM
@3dWitchHunt

RDJ though can keep playing Iron Man even when he is older because he uses a armored suit to fight in. Batman is a hand to hand fighter suppose to be taking on super villains. A man in his late 40's fighting super villains alongside superheroes is going to be very off putting and doesn't seem plausible even in a comic book movie. You also talk about replacing Affleck as Batman yet what after his first movie or after the first JL movie they create no chemistry or continuity with the cast if they just replace one of the most important characters between movies. I just feel they should have gone with a guy they can have for the next 5-10 years and begin to create a DC universe none of this says this to me at all.

P.S. I really don't see Affleck staying on for this long haul of a commitment being that his most success in Hollywood has been as a director and this level of commitment that they say they are going for won't really allow him to continue directing for quite a while.

"...is going to be very off putting and doesn't seem plausible even in a comic book movie"

In a comic book movie, with aliens, giant terraformers, lasers, and Superman, THAT seems implausible?
Batman is an ass kicker till death. A 47 year old Batman can still kick ass, robotic suit, or not. I dont see how this is hard to accept in a ridiculous comic book world.

Assuming JL is released in 2017, I see no reason why Affleck cant stick for at least 2 more outings as Batman after that. As I said before, 10 years is very feasible. By 2023, I wouldnt be surprised if Batman is featured in 3 films, not counting BvS.

Im just not seeing how this is such a stretch for you

Hey, Affleck knows what he's doing. He wouldnt've signed up for such a demanding role had he thought it would detract from his directorial career.

pesmerga44 - 8/23/2013, 12:33 AM
@3DWitchHunt

Yet he is still a human being with no powers fighting alongside super powered beings and he is going to be in his mid 40's. Even for comic books that is starting to really stretch it and if they really go the route of Kingdom Come Batman with the exoskeleton then he really isn't Batman anymnore is he because then he has a powered suit helping him fight. I also don't want them replacing him so damn soon as Batman that just seems pointless. We know they won't kill his character off and he will continue to be in JL movies and probably his own movies. More then likely seeing all the same actors reprise their rolls yet seeing a new person playing Batman will be so off putting.

He's a human who fights inhuman obstacles in the comics. Clayface, Mr.Freeze, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, etc
Its a deceit you have to live with if you want a more fictionalized Batman.

And who said anything about Kingdom Come?
An actor can hold his own and make you believe he can take on an impossible challenge. This is why Affleck is a good choice

After a decade, I can bet a large number of the actors will be replaced.
Case in point: I dont see RDJ, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, or Jeremy Renner, reprising their roles after 2018

I only see pure upsides to this.

1. We are getting two directors for one film Snyder, and Affleck which will make Man Of Steel 2 a better film.

2. Ben is a good actor.

3. Affleck can help with the script, and the writting for Man Of Steel 2. Which again will make Man Of Steel 2 a great film.

4. Ben can direct more films for DC like the Justice League.

I couldn't have picked a better choice. Great job WB, now not only do we get an extra director for MOS 2, but we also get an extra writer which will doble MOS 2's chances of being a great film.

@Dmon
Great choice for constantine. One of my favorite characters in all of comics.

Enough with the Goyer hatred. He's an excellent writer, read Heaven's Shadow if you don't believe me. Plus, he essentially brought Nolan's Batman trilogy to life, and wrote the best of the three movies.

If Ben Affleck is Batman, a few things need to happen, 1) He needs to be signed up for at 7 films. That's my dream. Which means, supporting role in MOS 2, three Batman solo films and three Justice League films. I will be so, SO angry and disappointed if this is a one or two film deal. If they got a 30 year old actor it would've been easier but whatever . . . 2) He needs to direct Batman solo films, which he probably is going to do anyway. 3) To maximize the amount of movies he plays Batman, maybe film a couple solo Bat-films back to back, and have Scott Adkins pick up whatever slack in terms of stunts.

I want this to succeed, but I really can't see it happening. Affleck is blue collar, not white collar. Don't see him as a charming, ripped Bruce Wayne.
