Christopher Nolan And Christian Bale Comment Briefly On Filming TDKR In New York
Talking to Empire Magazine, Christian Bale comments on avoiding accidentally taking out the paparazzi while facing off against hundreds of extras as Batman, while director Christopher Nolan praises the Big Apple as a fill-in Gotham.
"It's just impossible to stop people," said Christian Bale of the many fans and photographers who turned up on the streets on New York City to catch a glimpse of The Dark Knight Rises being filmed back in October. "I mean, we were doing rehearsals over there and it's like, 'Oh, I can't just punch that guy 'cause he's a paparazzi, he's not an extra.'"
Director Christopher Nolan meanwhile didn't comment on the intrusive presence of the paparazzi, but did however make a point of highlighting just how useful an experience it was to film on the streets of the Big Apple. "The jumping off point for me with taking on Batman in the first place was that if you could make believe in the reality of what they're seeing, then the story has unbelievable power," he said. "And shooting in New York with New York faces there...that's a big part if it.
