JOKER Picks Up Serious Attention In The Golden Globes Nominations, GAME OF THRONES' Final Season Snubbed

The full list of nominations for next year's Golden Globes have arrived, and things are looking good for the Clown Prince of Crime based on how much attention Joker is receiving. Read on for details...

The Golden Globes aren't exactly the Oscars, but they often give us an idea of how things will play out at the Academy Awards. While some fans thought that Joker would be overlooked by all the major awards show due to it being based on a comic book, it appears quite the opposite will be true!

In fact, not only is Joker up for "Best Drama" but Joaquin Phoenix has been nominated for "Best Actor" and Todd Phillips is up for "Best Director." The DC Comics adaptation also appears in a number of other categories, but the Clown Prince of Crime isn't the only talking point here.

The Lion King has been nominated for "Best Animated Film" despite being a "live-action" remake. Game of Thrones' final season has been snubbed, though - something which isn't exactly a huge surprise given what a disappointment it was. On the plus side, Kit Harington has been nominated.

I'll finally be watching soon I saw maybe the first 5 minutes and felt sorry for the guy. I'm not mad it's success. It really resonated with people.

Question, if Joaquin wins an award and joker and is nominated is this a win for comic book movies or will they use this as a means to demean other comic book movies?

@MyCoolYoung - Considering WB's biggest film of next year will have someone lassoing lightning bolts, I think they'd be foolish to demean the genre with their win
Matador

Only Globes that matter

Watchmen was [frick]ing snubbed. One of the absolute best TV shows of the year, and it got snubbed in favor of... The Morning Show?
De Niro getting snubbed is wack too. Thought he gave the best male performance this whole year, weird to see Bale or Pryce get over him. Lot of weird nominations all around. Todd Phillips over Noah Baumbach? Kit Harrington getting in over Jeremy Strong or Jeremy Irons?

@tmp3 - Willem Dafoe wasn't nominated as well. Or Robert Pattinson. Or The Lighthouse for that matter which I heard was really good.

@Necropolitan - Lighthouse looked too weird for huge awards love, but DaFoe not getting a nomination was pretty surprising. Happy to see Pesci there though, dude crushed it in The Irishman

@tmp3 - If I'm not mistaken, since Watchmen hasn't finished it's run before the nominations got sent out, it can't be nominated for the upcoming Golden Globes. It'll have to wait for next years Golden Globes and Emmy's to be nominated.

@Nerdman3000 - That's for the Emmy's; Mr. Robot got an acting nomination and hasn't finished either.

@tmp3 -
Very few people watched Watchmen so it is understandable that any quality it may have would'nt be mentioned.

I'm a bit disappointed Lupita didn't make it in for Us (personally the film is a bit forgettable but she was the best thing about it). Awkwafina actually getting a nom is a huge surprise though.

Having seen 1917, it deserves not only its nominations, but I have a feeling it might win. (if it doesn’t, then The Irishman will)

Also happy to see all the Knives Out and Joker nominations (the former because of quality and the latter because of how much it’ll inevitably piss off Film Twitter).

And Lion King getting nominated for Best Animated Feature is such a subtle but awesome [frick] you to Disney and their insistence that “no, it’s live action, not animated.”

@MUTO123 - The Lion King thing had me rolling to be honest.
