In the video below, Robert De Niro sits down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show to discuss Joker. Talk soon turned to what it was like working with Joaquin Phoenix and it was then that the legendary actor dropped what sounds like a major spoiler for the DC Comics adaptation.

"He was terrific. He was great yeah. I don't like what he does to me but I like him a lot," De Niro said.

If you're at all familiar with the comics, you probably already had an idea how things would go when the Clown Prince of Crime appears on Franklin Murray's talk show. Still, these remarks from De Niro all but confirm that his character will meet a horrible end at the villain's hands.

The actor then doubled down on those spoilers by saying the following when asked if he had fun playing a talk show host. "No, it was fun [Laughs]. I wasn't happy with the way it turned out but [Laughs]." So, yeah, it's going to be very interesting seeing how that meeting goes!

De Niro always gives monosyllabic answers and just generally doesn't give a shit while doing interviews, so this isn't all that surprising. People say Joaquin is bad doing press, but his idol De Niro might be even worse.
That said, so incredibly happy he's done with doing shitty studio comedies, and is doing dramas again between this, The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon w/ Leo. Dude might have more classics under his belt than any other actor in Hollywood history, and he kind of just stopped caring after Jackie Brown.

Meet the Parents is a goddamn classic! The sequels were weak.

Bad Grandpa I could do without.

@regularmovieguy - I like Wag The Dog, Meet The Parents and Midnight Run but all his other comedies are terrible. Unless King of Comedy counts as a dark comedy, that was something special

(I haven't seen the two comedies he did with De Palma though, they might have been good)

Cgi is really iffy, otherwise I'm really excited about this movie.

@regularmovieguy - I'm fine with iffy CGI if it means we get Pacino, De Niro and Pesci together for the first time

They might do a scene from the comics. In the comics the Joker went on a chat show and killed everyone on the show.

If you've seen The King of Comedy then this is no surprise. Joker is basically that film wrapped in loose Joker iconography.
