Minor Details Of Anne Hathaway/Catwoman Fight Scene In TDKR

The following report comes from Entertainment.STV who claim that Anne Hathaway gave a stuntman a black eye while shooting a fight scene in TDKR. It's not too much in the way of news, but what we can clean from it is that clearly Selina Kyle/Catwoman will get physical(duh!) and would appear to be using a gun at some point too..

The 28-year-old actress - who stars as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the Christopher Nolan-directed film - got a "bit carried away" while staging an on-set fight and hurt a man with the butt of a gun.

A source said: "Anne got a bit carried away during a fight scene and mistakenly shoved the butt of a gun right into the actor's eye socket.

"He came away with a massive black eye. Anne was mortified."

However, the stuntman remained "good humoured" about the event after the Oscar-nominated star sent him a silver pen with the engraving 'Remember no one packs a punch like Anne'.

Aside from the picture of Tom Hardy as bane, there has been nothing else official from the TDKR camp. But we have had a few interesting reports and set pictures to keep us going. Hopefully we won't have to wait to long for a look at Hathaway as Catwoman.

Can't wait to see what she actually does in the movie - sounds like she's doing well enough just acting around the crew!

That's why he's called STUNTman.

I'd let her "shove [her] butt [...] right into [my] eye socket" without major complaints!

i have a new found respect for anne hathaway. Not due to the fact that she gave a stuntman a black eye but due to the way she apologized, with the pen.

Nothing to respect there, and no, that's NOT why he's called stuntman.
This is another example of why most actors should not be allowed to do their own stunts. Professional stuntwork is well coreographed, well timed, well executed and no one gets hurt (especially filming fight scenes). Viggo hurt a bunch of stuntmen in LOTR for the same reason.
Hurting stuntment during filming doesn't mean the actor is badass. It means they have no coordination, and have no idea what they are doing.

lol well I'm betting the guy who got hit, if nothing else is hoping they atleast use that shot, would be a shame if they didnt and he got a black eye for nothing :P

the pen is mightier then a sword, not the butt of a gun ; )

@captainProg, no shit, victim number 1 in the latest shoot. If Nolan was a theme park he'd be shut down for to many safety violations.

Working with untrained actors is part of the stuntman's job. It's a risk associated with his profession. Anne handled it in as cool a way as possible. He's a big boy, he can handle a black eye.

@hescian: well said my friend. No movie is worth real injuries. And that's why I wish they start making high-budget CGI (Arkham Asylum-Arkham City)styled Batman movies instead of live ones.
The action would be greater and the focus will be on the story not actors!

@Hescian, relax. Do you want Anne's face in these scenes or the back of a stunt person's head? Every actor does fight scenes, just look at The Matrix films as a prime example. You all need to chill the [frick] out and take some pills. It's called an accident, shit happens. "Oh no he got a black eye!? Poor thing!" Give me a break, not only did she take the time to apologize, the black eye WASN'T ON PURPOSE. People get black eyes all the time in real life for stupid bar fights, or motor-related accidents. It's not like he lost his eye here. You got all butt hurt cause an actor hit somebody by accident? Unless they have Hatheway stunt clones that look 100% like her, they will always film the actor doing stunts as much as possible. It's called realism, maybe you've heard of it.
hescian
hescian - 6/7/2011, 11:02 AM
@Vital - I'm totally relaxed. I prefer realism in movies as well. The fact is that not everyone is physically capable of doing their own stunt work. Not everyone is Jackie Chan. Actors get trained, and assessed, and if they can't handle it, they shouldn't be doing it. Sure, accidents happen. But I'm not going to give Anne Hathaway "props" for being uncoordinated.
@N - you've clearly never been on a movie set, and have no idea about the film making process. Stuntmen (or women) are not there to be hurt (as I mentioned in my original comment).
I may be lame, I may be a snob... but at least I'm not totally ignorant.

Ouch.

@hescian I understand where you're coming from. Stuntwork is already dangerous enough with big budget movies like this, so the last thing we want is the professional stuntmen straying away from the film because of an actress/actor getting "a little too carried away". But, I can also understand why Nolan/Anne wanted her to do the fight scenes without a stunt double. It would most likely lead to having a more authentic feel, and seeing as Nolan...sucks...at filming fight scenes, he would need all the help he could get in making it seem believable.

I really hope she is a minor character because I do not really like Catwoman as a character and I don't want her to take away from the story. I want the main villain to be Bane and with a couple of minor roles. Plus I hated Catwoman in Batman Returns well I just hated that movie.

Hescian(and a few others), lol in the immortal words of Mistah J, "Why so serious"... The only reason any of us are hearing about it is BECAUSE it involved one of the stars. Stuntmen get hurt alllll the time and hurt each other just as often. We just don't hear about it because it isn't exactly breaking news(neither is this really, but still funny) that stuntman A accidently busted stuntman B's lip. That's what stuntmen are for.

Vital - 6/8/2011, 4:08 PM
I think Batman Returns is a joke personally. It's just dumb and cheesy. Batman 1989 wasn't nearly as corny.
