According to 100gf, a radical movement is being inspired by a movement on Reddit to protest SOPA, by hitting one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year where it hurts: At the Box Office. From the site:

As opposition to Hollywood studios relentless support of SOPA and PIPA continues, a new campaign is urging people to boycott The Dark Knight Rises (this year’s big new Batman film) in protest. The campaign is based around this Reddit page and aims to hit Hollywood where it hurts by knocking some dollars off the film’s undoubtedly huge box office take.

Can a campaign to encourage a boycott of the film really do enough damage to make people sit up and take notice? Will The Dark Knight Rises be used to send a powerful message to Hollywood?

The Dark Knight Rises comes out July 20th, 2012. Starring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Anne Hathaway. See it in theaters....or not?

Yeeeah, this is not the way to protest SOPA. I'm not going to boycott anything, especially TDKR or any other film of this year.

But ACTA is another one of the main things people are getting concerned about. Especially since it's been proposed and signed in some countries in Europe.

SOPA needs to be stopped. Seriously. Stopping people from seeing The Dark Knight Rises doesn't make any sense. Big deal, people should watch the movie and download it when it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray. Why download it when the movie launches in theaters when the quality is utter shit? Trust me, that's the best move.

I wish we had the edit feature back!

And I agree with Xenix's theory: Why ban a great movie like The Dark Knight Rises when we could ban The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II. Movies like that should not be celebrated at all, period!

Hell, even a friend of mine got in trouble for downloading Garfield the Movie! Was that movie so scary good that the downloader had to be harassed? Even Bill Murray scoffed at it in Zombieland.

Yeah....good luck with that. While you boycott I'll be in the front row fangirling over Bale, Hardy and JGL.
Have fun protesting :)

Its a great idea, boycott the most popular and expensive movies Hollywood produce and hit them where it hurts, their pocket.

Unfortunately people are way too selfish to make the sacrifice for the greater good of having their freedom on the internet, the current generation is spoilt as hell with everything at their fingertips so they'll want their cake and eat it too. So Hollywood will once again prevail with the outdated format of making us pay to see the movie then pay to purchase the movie on Home Video and also pay to download the movie on pay per view when they can easily produce all three services at the same time for the convenience of the digital age and the viewer. Something they don't want to do simply because a staggered release of formats and situations means more money for them and more cash out of your pockets!

People are and always will be suckers because they never look at the big picture, just the fast-food mentality of having it now and quickly as possible!
