THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Director Explains Why He Wants To Make A NIGHTWING Movie

We've all been wondering for a while now when Nightwing would make his big screen live-action debut, but the director of his solo movie has now shed some light on what's so fascinating about Dick Grayson.

The news of a solo outing for Nightwing is long overdue, and as most comic book fans loved The LEGO Batman Movie, the fact that Chris McKay is at the helm has come as very good news. He knows all about Dick Grayson after making a younger version of the hero a focal point of the Caped Crusader's latest animated feature, but what makes his alter-ego Nightwing so appealing?

Talking on the Shanlian On Batman Podcast (via CBR), the director had this to say about what makes the character so interesting to him and why he thinks Grayson is well suited to his own movie.

"Bruce Wayne, in my mind, came from privilege and I think that’s why he’s more dour and angry,. He’s self-made as far as his becoming all of these cool things we like him for. … Dick Grayson didn’t come from that. Dick Grayson came from a circus family. Essentially people who aren’t rich and they are self-made. They’re entertainers. They’re gymnasts. They’re people who live hand-to-mouth and that’s something that informs him and his attitude … he’s a fascinating guy to me, because he had all the same things happen to him. He’s got some of the same negatives as Bruce Wayne and then from a society standpoint — obviously he was adopted into Bruce Wayne’s life … but he didn’t start that way. He’s this guy who has all these negatives and then even more negatives and yet he remains … Those are things why I like Dick Grayson, why I like the idea of Nightwing as a movie."

It very much sounds like McKay may have an interest in exploring Nightwing's origin story, and if that's the case, we can probably expect to see some flashbacks dealing with both his time with The Flying Graysons and even Batman (assuming Ben Affleck is willing to return to the role here). That's just speculation for now, of course, but this certainly sounds pretty good from what we're hearing so far.

What do you guys think about McKay's Nightwing comments? As always, let us know down below.

As always, I'm looking forward to it, but I just hope they don't screw up. I've learned all the more to not have any expectations for these films.

All of this could be explored in a Batman and Robin movie. Nightwing doesn't deserve a solo.

Rather have Teen Titans or like I just said, Batman and Robin together on the big screen again.
