POLL: What Is Your Opinion On The Dark Knight Rises Director Christopher Nolan?

POLL: What Is Your Opinion On The Dark Knight Rises Director Christopher Nolan?

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are considered to be two of the greatest comic book movies ever, while TDKR is one of the most anticipated. Christopher Nolan seems to divide opinion though, so here's your chance to decide once and for all...

Feature Opinion

If there's one thing which has been dividing CBM lately, it's Christopher Nolan. I'll be honest, I really have no idea why, especially after the downright brilliant Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. While his more grounded and realistic take on the iconic DC superhero isn't to everyone's taste, there's surely no getting around the fact that he's responsible for bringing the character to the big screen in a much better way than past interpretations. Of course, that's just myopinion...what do you guys think? I've seen a lot of praise and a lot of hatred poured Nolan's way as of late, so here's hoping we can settle this issue once and for all!

STARRING:

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman
Michael Caine as Alfred
Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon
Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox
Tom Hardy as Bane
Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake
Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate
Josh Pence as Ra's Al Ghul

RELEASE DATE: July 20th, 2012

The guy is my favorite movie director, but I am not one of his bitches that says that he is god, he is great and that is all. His vision on the batman movies are great, loved both Begins and TDK and I am sure TDKR will be awesome too!

Cool poll Josh!

I think he is one of the best directors working in Hollywood today. Genius? I don't know about that, I use that word very sparingly. But he hasn't made a bad movie imo and even the ones that are just good are at the very least interesting. So yeah, I chose the most positive option. If we had even another handful of directors with his skill, vision and most of all BALLS, we would have a hell of a lot more mainstream, block buster movies that didn't either insult our intelligence or flat out suck ass.

The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies and he is one of my favorite directors. That being said he is still over rated. Pretty much on every board for a super hero movie there is somebody who says that Nolan should direct it. And every time we get a handful of goofy set photos from TDKR, we get a handful of "In Nolan I Trust" fanboys and fangirls claiming that it is impossible for him to make a bad movie. TDKR will most likely be very good if you look at his past work. But it is possible that it can be bad, so I wish people would stop pretending it's not.

He's a good director, but I dont see the guy as a God or Overlord on everything movies. I will admit that I Enjoy his bat films BUT, thats a HUGE bUT, I do believe that they fail to capture the essence of the real Batman mythos. Surprisingly I think the best form of Batman in Electronic media as been the Arkham games, when I think batman, I think arkham batman over TDK batman

It's not that Nolanites think that he's perfect. It's them thinking that he is beyond perfect.

Hey marvel72, care to explain what changed in a year that makes you no longer believe Nolan is a great director? Just curious kiddo.

Probably my favorite director, he has yet to put out a bad film so far. Even excellent directors such as Steven Spielberg, Sam Raimi, Jon Favreau, and Joe Johnston has had a few duds here and there, I can't say the same for Nolan.

lol...Dude I understand some people thinking that he's really not that great of a director or even overrated (but those people don't know the meaning of the word) but what I DON'T get is the blatant hatred towards him. It's unfounded and undeserved. It just feels like the majority of the fans and general movie going public hold his work in such high regard, there always have to be those from the 'sour grapes' crowd who hate just because they hate popular things. It makes absolutely no sense.
rockerdude22
rockerdude22 - 9/19/2011, 3:24 PM
He's a great director, and I do enjoy his Batman films and am looking forward to TDKR, but his Batman movies are seriously becoming overrated. It's like every CBM that comes out nowadays gets compared to the TDK. Seriously, if every CBM was the same or always like Nolan's vision, wouldn't we get bored with them after a while? I think so. It should always be about standing out from the rest.

@ Irons

my own personal stalker you put in a lot of work finding that,i'm not quite sure what to think about it.

its the way the nolanites always overrate him like he can do no wrong.it actually puts me off the guy.the dark knight,as i said its a good film but not great.

i personally think memento & inception are better movies.

also i was looking forward to the dark knight rises, until i f*ckin saw the look of bane & catwoman.

anything else my stalker. :D

As others ^^^ have said, he hasnt put anything bad out yet, while you could think of 5 other "gifted directors" and not say the same thing. Sure, eventually he will make a bad movie. Nobody's 100% perfect. Nobody. but right now, Nolan's in his prime, and i don't see him falling for quite awhile.

Cant wait for TDKR.

Anything else, well, yeah you still didn't answer the question.
headlopper
headlopper - 9/19/2011, 3:33 PM
This is a loaded question so I'll need to wear my kevlar to answer: HE'S THE BEST CBM DIRECTOR IN THE INDUSTRY RIGHT NOW.
However if Neill Blomkamp directed a CBM, I believe he would make an awesome movie.
He's very passionate about his projects(District 9) ,very artistic in style(something desperately lacking in Hollywood) and is superb with a camera.

AC1 - 9/19/2011, 3:34 PM
I feel the same as Lucaxmen, he's my favourite director but I'm not deluded to the point that I could praise a bad film if he were to make one. If TDKR sucks, then I'll admit straight away that it sucks, and feel an overwhelming sadness that the series didn't end well. But Nolan has yet to make a bad film, and I dont think he'll start with the sequel to what was arguably his best film. Maybe it wont be as good as TDK, but I doubt it'll be a bad movie.

@Marvel why is Batman Begins always thrown to the side and forgotten? Its almost never mentioned anymore.

Personally, I loved it for the story and structure. I felt it did that a bit better than TDK did.

However, its TDK's performances that made that movie great.
