Despite the massive changes made to the DCEU DCU by Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios, The Batman franchise is set to continue. We don't know whether Matt Reeves' ambitious plan for several villain-led Max TV shows will come to fruition, but The Batman II has been confirmed, as has The Penguin.
Now, a new logo for the spin-off series has been unearthed on its Max landing page.
It doesn't reveal much, or anything at all, but is very much in line with The Batman's logo. That was to be expected, though we wouldn't be surprised if this is a placeholder until something a little more unique is created for the iconic villain's first solo outing.
Production has been halted on The Penguin due to the ongoing WGA strike and more than 50 days into that, there's still no end in sight. Whether that will result in a significant delay to this series is unclear but it's almost certainly led to work on plans to expand the Bat-Verse being halted.
In terms of plot details, very little is known about the series. However, we expect it to follow Oswald Cobblepot's rise to power in Gotham, establishing him as the city's new crimelord ahead of The Batman II; whether he'll be that sequel's big bad obviously remains to be seen, especially with The Joker locked up in Arkham.
Lauren LeFranc serves as The Penguin's writer, executive producer, and showrunner, while The Batman director Matt Reeves executive produces as well.
Colin Farrell, meanwhile, reprises his role as "Oz" and will also be joined in the series by Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Theo Rossi, Michael Zegen, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Deirdre O’Connell.
The Batman II is set to be released in theaters on October 3, 2025, and The Penguin will likely premiere on Max sometime in 2024.
