In some very surprising casting news, Deadline reports that Mariah Carey is in talks to voice Commissioner Gordon in The Lego Batman Movie alongside Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Ralph Feinnes (Alfred) and (probably) Zach Galifianakis as The Joker.

The site doesn't specify whether the character will be gender-swapped, or Carey will simply voice Gordon as a male - but considering the multi-sward-winning songstress is known for her high-pitched tones, that would seem like an odd move.

Chris McKay will direct The Lego Batman Movie, which has a script by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, and is set to hit theaters February 10, 2017. What are your thoughts on this?

Hilarious! This is exactly the bonkers pop-culture absurdity I want to see from Lego.

Let's hope Commissioner Gordon gets to serenade Batman with a rendition of 'Hero.'

(Also, just to quibble for a bit, but Mariah Carey is also known for her ability to hit the low notes in addition to the high-pitched tones. She's got an impressive vocal range, even if the squeals have made the biggest impression.)
