Ben Affleck’s Batman Looks Absolutely Badass In New BATMAN V SUPERMAN Picture Shared By Zack Snyder

Ben Affleck’s Batman was always visually striking, but in a new picture from Batman v Superman shared by Zack Snyder, the Dark Knight looks absolutely amazing.

There are many (understandable) complaints people have about the DCEU, but Ben Affleck's Batman is usually not one of them. Upon his casting, many were worried the Good Will Hunting actor was not the right fit for the beloved hero. Then, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out. The movie was met with a largely poor critical reception, and it went on to become one of the most controversial films in the superhero genre. The one thing people praised about it, however, was Ben Affleck's Batman.

In only one movie, Affleck became many people's favorite live-action Caped Crusader. Aside from his performance, an often-praised aspect of the character was his aesthetic. The movie pivoted away from the more realistic militaristic look the character sported in The Dark Knight trilogy in favor of a full, larger-than-life comic book design. Though it's commonly understood that fully comic-accurate live-action suits will likely look silly, Affleck's Batman was the exception to the rule. Clad in live-action versions of costumes from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, Batman looked scary, imposing and just overall cool.

Visually speaking, Ben Affleck's was nearly a perfect interpretation of the hero. Now, Batman v Superman helmer Zack Snyder has shared arguably one of the coolest looks at his Batman yet. The director took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes pic of Affleck clad in the armored suit he used to fight Superman. The photo features the Dark Knight standing next to the Bat-Signal, under the rain, covered in shadows, looking like he was ripped straight out of a comic page:

Snyder captioned the post with: "BVS Batman in the hard suit."

In a 2015 interview with Fashionista, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson explained that Snyder wanted the films' superhero suits to feel like they could exist in real life:

"He really wants these characters to connect directly to our world. So, if you were walking down the street and you came across Superman or Batman—of course it would be startling and powerful—but it could actually happen in our world rather than in a stylized version of our reality."

Wilkinson further revealed that for Affleck's costume, Snyder wanted to avoid the restricted movement Michael Keaton experienced with his Batsuit in 1989's Batman

"That's actually one of the first things that Snyder mentioned to me in one of our initial meetings. It's a very important thing to Zack that the Batsuit would be comfortable and very flexible, but then would be able to perform in a very natural and forceful way. So a lot of incredible engineering went into the development of the new black cowl."

Controversial storytelling style aside, Zack Snyder delivered some of the most visually striking comic book costumes in the superhero genre. Man of Steel, for example, had what could be considered one of the best Superman suits to date, perfectly mixing modern sensibilities with the hero's classic iconography. Batman v Superman similarly delivered one of the most aesthetically pleasing Batmen so far.

Making a comic-accurate Batman look intimidating is tricky, but Wilkinson and Snyder found the perfect balance for him in Batman v Superman. The Caped Crusader looked like a tank you did not want to stand in the way of. His first scene treated him like a horror creature, and it worked thanks to his striking design. Most impressively though, was the fact that Affleck's Dark Knight looked terrifying while still very much feeling like a superhero.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is available to stream on HBO Max.

What do you think about Snyder's new look at Ben Affleck's Batman? What's been your favorite live-action Batman design so far? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

Zack seems to know something we don’t.
Interesting.

Most people don't realize that Zack's Batman movie would have been at least in part an adaptation of The Dark Knight Strikes Again. There was a Dick Grayson tombstone in BvS. Joker's scars match the bullet holes on the Robin suit. Everything about Batfleck is from Frank Miller. I'm sure he would have brought in Carrie Kelley.

Not saying it would've been a good idea, but it certainly would have been different.

@InfinitePunches

Zack Snyder was never writing or directing the solo Batman movie.

@regmovieguy - He would have certainly been an executive producer and likely gotten a story writing credit if BvS had been more universally beloved by fans. But yes, Affleck wanted to direct and David Goyer probably would've done the screenplay.

Snyder understood implicitly the design, lighting and cinematography expected of an adult CBM. Great vision, if a little one trick pony but absolutely lousy story telling. Gunn (or whoever replaces him) could learn a lot from a tone perspective. Gunn's Saturday Morning TV aesthetic is Superman Lite, keep him away from the Batman.

That looks cool as is the case with Snyder’s visuals usually…

Him focusing so much on the visual nature of things shows dude should be a DP rather then director lol.

Anyway , I wish I could consider this version of Batman to be the best live action take on the big screen but aesthetics and a cool fight scene or so do not make a good take imo…

Honestly , Snyder’s arc of a Batman that is a veteran crime fighter who has had losses that apparently made him more ruthless , jaded & cynical at the point where he’s killing his enemies or branding them in prison to someone who tries to find redemption after his experience with Superman by going back to the light and trying again to be the hero he used to be sounds really cool on paper but just wasn’t executed well unfortunately.

However it was no fault of Affleck’s who did as well as he could with the material & direction he had hence I wish he was under a better creative then Snyder.

I'm not a Snyder fan by far, but his take on Batman was spot on for me. We finally got the big, badass Batman and 3 times out (I hate to include the Flash movie version of him, but I must) and he was gone. I think losing this version of Batman was such a waste. He deserved his own film, at least once for the fans.

I don’t get why people want to restore the Snyderverse so bad when Snyder himself leaked his whole story arc for Justice League and it is absolutely dogshit. He didnt even had plans for the universe after Justice League part 3. Batman is dead, Superman is supposed to raise Batman and Lois kid that might become the new Batman. And that’s it, just a shitty take for a Justice League trilogy and no plans for a “universe” just like what Snyder did with his shitty “Star Wars” trilogy aka Rebel Moon.

I don't understand how or even why Zack wants to do a Dark Knight Returns adaptation when he already visited several of those themes in BvS, but who am I to question the brilliance of Lord Snyder. Lol

Look, I know the Snyderverse isn't perfect but I prefer the madness of Snyders elseworld style stuff than the boring schlocky teams of C and D list characters Gunn keeps repackaging over and over. I'll take an overly dark and gritty elseworld version of the Justice League than another James Gunn x rated ensemble piece with his wife and brother.

No one gives a shit, Zack. Matt Reeves made a better Batman movie with a better understanding of Batman than Zack Snyder could ever pray to do. This type of engagement farming is lame as hell.

At last, Snyder fans and Snyder haters are finally sharing common grounds; the ridiculous notion that Zack sharing pictures on Instagram means he's definitely trying to take over WBD and restore his continuity, for better or worse.
