THE BOYS, BIRDS OF PREY, THE MANDALORIAN, And SOUL Win Big At This Year's CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS

The Critics Choice Awards took place last night, and in a year for movies and TV shows unlike any other, the winners make for fascinating reading. Find out how Birds of Prey, The Boys, and more, did here!

2020 was far from a normal year for movies and TV shows. Many huge releases ended up being delayed, while others were forced to halt production and have only recently resumed work. There was still a lot of great content to enjoy, though, and those were recognised at the Critics Choice Awards last night.

Taking place remotely with COVID-safe protocols in place, the event saw The Boys walk away with the most wins. Soul wasn't too far behind, while Netflix's The Old Guard was named the year's best superhero movie (despite Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor nabbing two acting awards for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)).

There's no denying that this list of winners would have looked a lot different had 2020 not been hit by a pandemic, but there are still a lot of very deserving winners here.

The one that really jumps out is Jensen Ackles, who picked up an award for "Best Actor In A Horror Series." It's great to see him receive some recognition for his work as Dean Winchester in Supernatural, and with a lead role in The Boys in the works, it feels like he's about to hit the big time.

@DaClungerlorian - Easily the best thing about WW84. Such a strange and funny take on a supervillain, he just seemed like a happy drunk idiot for the most part and I loved it.

@whatevtrev - Yeah, I really didn’t get that take on it. I found him to be incredibly cringeworthy. Like the rest of WW84.

The Old Guard

Okay, that's a bit funny.

Did every movie that came out this year get a nomination?

This wasn't the actual Critics Choice Awards, just the Critics Choice SUPER Awards, which feels fairly patronizing. It's a shame they've had to separate these genre films to their own Awards ceremony just so that they can move them out of the way before they later focus on the 'serious' films.

@whatevtrev - Exactly. The title is misleading af, and the body of the text doesn't even correct it. This is not the Critics Choice Awards, which will happen later. This one was an attempt at awarding the popular stuff without giving it a chance at the "serious" stuff. There's a Super between choice and awards *facepalm*

The Invisible Man deserves its award.

The Hunt and Invisible Man being among the winners feels vindicating. Two really great and entries in genre filmmaking.

I agree with some of these

Lovecraft was good, especially episode 8 that was messed up.
The Mandalorion which is the thing keeping Star Wars alive.
The Invisible Man was a good take.
The Boys good show, don't know if better than season one.
Vikings I need to start watching.
The Old Guard was OK.

Birds Of Prey was shit
GhostDog

Boys, Lovecraft, IM, and Mando were deserving.
HannibalLecter

Credit where credit is due, Carrey's Eggman was something else!

ElvenKingSlayer

I enjoy Mando because it's Star Wars but the premise of the show is really lacking. It's "I need to get here" or "I need to find this person" and with that; "Ok I can help you but first I need your help". Imo Raised by wolves was the best sci-fi läst year.

As someone who disliked Birds of Prey....McGreggor was the best thing in it and was great

Smollet was so freaking good in Lovecraft, totally deserved. Love that series!
The Tulsa episode is easily one of the best episodes put to tv ever, as is the flashback episode.

This wasn't the actual Critics Choice Awards! This was the Critics Choice Super Awards.
