BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER - Shuri Is The Bookie's Favorite To Take Over As Black Panther

It's widely believed that another character will take up the mantle of Black Panther in Wakanda Forever following Chadwick Boseman's death, and Letitia Wright's Shuri is the current favorite...

Though it's yet to be made official, the prevailing theory is that we will see someone else take up the mantle of Black Panther in the upcoming sequel following the tragic death of T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman, and the current betting odds favor Shuri.

MyBookie is now taking bets on which character is destined to become the Black Panther, and T'Chall's little sister is the heavy favorite at -175. She's followed by Nakia at +175, Okoye at +350, the Field (any other possibility that's not listed) at +400, Erik Killmonger at +500, M’Baku at +600, W’Kabi at +700, and Bucky Barnes at +1000.

Shuri (Letitia Wright) has served as Black Panther in the comics, and always seemed like the most logical choice to continue her brother's legacy. Marvel might decide to shake things up a bit and go with a less obvious pick, but if anyone is going to step up as Wakanda's new protector, our money's on the princess. We certainly wouldn't be placing any bets on the Winter Soldier!

Marvel Studios announced that the highly-anticipated sequel will be titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever during a recent Phase 4 preview. Specific plot details remain under wraps, but a brief logline tells us that "Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film."

Ryan Coogler is back on board as writer and director for Wakanda Forever, which will be released on July 8, 2022.

Whomever bet on Bucky becoming the next Black Panther should never bet again their lives.

@LiteralSense90 - Or Killmonger...

@The1st - actually I think Killmonger is the smart money, because although it’s unlikely it’s possible, and pays higher odds because of how unlikely it is. But there could conceivably be a plot wherein Killmonger finds redemption after being inspired by T’Challa in some way. It would be a crazy and suprising direction, but that’s why it pays more, so someone might get a nice suprise and payout! Maybe there’s a whole team or army of Panthers to replace Tchalla because they decide the lone hero-king thing doesnt work for some reason, and Killmonger is invited as one of them for some reason?

But a white man being made black panther? Close to impossible, because the moral outrage and social justice warriors would destroy marvel. DUMB bet.

@connorblaze - I actually like @whalers idea, and in that way they could bring back MBJ if they really wanted/needed to. I've always just thought of this film as a placeholder until people get over Boseman's loss and they recast, unless they give Shuri the mantle. It seems too soon for me, but the films have glossed over things like this before. Provided they could make it believable I'd be down, but MCU Shuri is not comics Shuri mostly due to experience at this point.

Hear me out... instead of bringing him back, introduce an original character as Erik Killmonger’s American son, and have him take up the BP mantle. SO much potential there...

Start BP 2 (or 3?) with a massive royal memorial to T’Challa. Then, early on, his mom, Shuri and Okoye have a conversation about how in his final days, he revealed to Shuri that he discovered Killmonger had an unknown son in America, and that his dying wish was for him to be found and welcomed into Wakanda, so that he doesn’t go down the same dark path as his father. This could also be an attempt by T’Challa to further right the wrongs of his own father from the first film. Then, over the course of the story, EK’s son has to reconcile with all the bad things his father did, as well as processing where/who he comes from. His story could be about embracing parts of both T’Challa’s and Erik’s world-views / foreign policy, while walking the line between the two. BP1 ended with T’Challa deciding to learn from and apply at least SOME of EK’s ideologies when it comes to Wakanda’s role in the world, this could be a great way to continue that notion without having to recast T’Challa or undo a great death with Killmonger. He would even have a blood claim to the throne!

The Black Panther mantle is WAY too important to sidelined, this could be a path to keep that presence in the MCU while still being respectful of Chadwick’s passing, and still also having a strong connection to the first movie. Also, they could spin it as T’Challa wanting his successor to be a Wakandan outsider in order to bring a different voice and an African-American’s perspective to the throne. Again, SOO much potential there...

@whalers - - 1st act: Opens with T’Challa’s royal funeral. Afterwards, in the throne room, Shuri reveals to her mother and Okoye what T’Challa told her about EK’s son. They agree to send Shuri, Nakia, and The Dora Milaje (led by Ayo) go to America to find Killmonger’s son (maybe meet up with Bucky?). The son is introduced in some kind of a fight scene (to show he’s a badass like his dad) in a not-great city, the Wakandans find him and confront him, he’s suspicious about everything, he runs, parkour chase scene demonstrating his smarts and athleticism, etc.

- 2nd act: They bring him back to Wakanda, he has to deal with people there resenting him for what his father did, he learns about everything that happened and processes it. Act concludes with him doing the challenge / fight thing by the waterfall. He wins... but he doesn’t want to be King, he just wanted to prove he was worthy! Later, he’s preparing to leave, until someone explains to him that he could have the opportunity to talk to his father for the first time via taking the heart shaped herb / doing the burial thing...

- 3rd act: A threat thats been the B-plot and lurking in the background: Surrounding militias / poachers deciding to attack and invade Wakanda for its now publicly-known valuable resources, now that word is out that their guardian/leader is gone. Things get to the point where it looks like Shuri/her mother might die and Wakanda might fall, (insert classic Marvel last second rescue scene, like Sam/Cap saving the truck in the finale) something saves them! Camera zooms out, and its EK’s son rocking his own suit panther suit, he saves the day, etc. Turns out he was inspired to take up the mantle after taking the herb / doing the burial thing and talking to his dad in the afterlife who has grown/evolved as a character, and sees that at least some of the things he did were wrong. After everything, the son decides to accept the throne, and its suggested that due to his American upbringing, he’ll be the ideal king to lead Wakanda in its efforts on how best to aid the rest of the world. The end.

- Post credits scene: Nakia is somewhere in a desert-like region of Africa, clearly searching for something.. she sees a girl with white-silver hair standing in the open.. dark clouds are beginning to form.. camera zooms out to reveal the girl’s face, and she has glowing white eyes! Thunder clap! (The son’s future love interest?)

- 2nd post credits scene: Latveria / Dr. Doom, or something.

@whalers - This plot sounds very much like Coming to America 2, but with MCU characters and fighting :P

How much y'all wanna bet they're gonna pull a "We're all Black Panther" in BP2?
Repian

I think these bets are below what Feige and Ryan Coogler have prepared. If Martin Freeman was surprised, I think this is not as simple as we think.

Lowkey wanna see Bucky just to watch the world go into total meltdown.

I'd like to see Okoye get a shot. She's a great fighter, proved that she's loyal to Wakanda, and her role as the head of the DM could be given to Ayo, which would also give her more screen time.

But really, I just miss the War Rhinos !

I kind of want Shuri, Nakia, and Okoye somehow sharing the Black Panther duties.
GhostDog

@Kyos - I really think the mantle will be something to be shared. Okoye feels so fitting as she is the greatest warrior Wakanda has, outside of T'Challa.

Shuri? Killmonger? Bucky Barnes!?

I really think that recasting T'Challa would just be a better idea in the long run.

TheRationalNerd

I mean....I just really want Black Panther and Storm to have relations on the big screen. We gotta get a brotha in that costume to make it so. Shuri can have her honorable take on the mantle in the sequel but in the long run we should have a new King on the throne.

...Killmonger should be that new King under the right redemption story.

Nakia or Okoye, those are my picks. I doubt Okoye would go for it just because she's such a staunch traditionalist, but definitely Nakia. Lupita deserves.

Will be interesting if despite all the negative stuff Letitia Wright said during the pandamic and all, if they do give her the lead. . .
