BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Set Photo Hints At Underwater Scenes...Are We Heading To Atlantis?

Excitement for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is building, and a newly surfaced set photo indicates that we will indeed be getting some underwater scenes in the sequel. Does that confirm Namor's debut?

By JoshWilding - Jul 28, 2021 09:07 AM EST

When some sort of underwater volcanic eruption was mentioned in Avengers: Endgame by Okoye, fans immediately started speculating about whether that could have been a nod to Atlantis.

Since then, we've learned that Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is playing Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's lead villain, and while no official casting details have been shared, it's been widely claimed he will take on the role of Namor the Submariner. The premise of the movie is said to be a war between Wakanda and Atlantis, while Namora and Cadmael are also rumoured to appear.

As with any rumour, we're not banking on anything until Marvel Studios shares some official details. Adding further fuel to the fire, however, is a photo from the Atlanta set of the movie.

The photo, shared on Instagram, confirms that a water tank is being used for the Black Panther sequel. While the person who shared this would later clarify that "I'm not actually on [Black Panther] we’re just using their tank I’m on another movie next-door," it looks like we're definitely getting some underwater scenes. That's only going to increase speculation about Namor's debut.

It would certainly make sense to pit Wakanda against Atlantis, especially if T'Challa's death creates a power vacuum. We'll have to wait and see, but it's fair to say Namor's live-action debut is long overdue. We'd have loved to see him clash with Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, of course, but it should be just as much fun seeing him go to war with whoever inherits the mantle here.

Set Photo Hints At Underwater Scenes...Are We Heading To Atlantis?

Could still be New York.

@Reeds2Much - Or maybe another character gets thrown down that river again like T'challa did in part 1 and they need a tank for that scene

@Waddles - Oh damn...I'm not far from NYC, yet i didn't know about this. I have gotten really good at just ignoring the news in general.

@Waddles - I was going for the gallows humor, but I could lie and point out that Namor was never exactly shy about getting New York's socks soggy.

Will probably get some casting announcements soon, I imagine. Not sure why these leaks haven’t been cracked down on yet.

I think that we’ll definitely be seeing Namor in homeworld of Atlantis. Just a shame that T’Challa won’t be there.

@WeaponXCII - Yeah, I'd continue to say that its a shame they won't recast, but there is no longer a point in hoping that decision changes.

It sounds like they are sticking to moving on without the T'Challa character and likely pass or split the mantle for the different characters to take on...

You aren't black panther, I'm not black panther...WE are black panther! lol

@Turtlestrong - Just think of it as a variant of Black Panther in the MCU timeline. T'Challa still lives in other timelines. We just won't get to see them.

@elcapitan - Or maybe we will get to see an alt-T'Challa played by someone else. Who knows?

This dude just casually posting spoilers on his IG lmao. It's clear he has no idea how important the secrecy around these projects are meant to be.

Crazy Lady Grace Randolph is going to have a melt down over this

She believes Atlantis should be left for DC only

@WakandaTech - I believe Crazy Lady Grace Randolph would be better served begging for attention in truckstop bathrooms rather than as a "goddess" to nerds online. Both are possibly shitty opinions, but we're both entitled to them I guess.

Part of me suspect Namor isn't actually going to be a villain at all if he's in this. I imagine Atlantis and Wakanda had some ties based on their shared secludedness.

If a hidden kingdom is gonna be the villain, I'm starting to think it might be Naga and Lemuria. In part due to Wakanda being on the side of Africe that's more easily reached from the Indian Ocean.

At this point I don’t think feige and co care anymore, they know they can slap MARVEL on a turd and it would make them millions spoilers or not.

@GameOn - no what I’m saying is that they’re not going crazy about being secretive, if they were there’d be no leaked photos.

I would prefer a black panther villain, and not it to go into atlantis. But this is fine I guess.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that Dave Batista took all those shots at Disney just to turn around and start selling D+ for them?

RIP to all the Disney haters who jumped on the Batista bandwagon!😂🤣

Black Panther tried to be a serious story about the consequences of colonialism and the idea of a pan african identity and how americans are excluded from that culture because of slavery. And it did all of this while being a showcase for this incredible afro futuristic utopia. I don't think the second film will introduce an element like Atlantis that totally takes attention away from these people.

@Alphadog - in a sense but the movie never went too deep in to that.
