BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER's Rumored Runtime Makes It One Of The Longest MCU Movies To Date

With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever fast approaching, a possible runtime for Ryan Coogler's highly anticipated sequel has surfaced that points to it being one of Marvel Studios' longest movies to date...

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now right around the corner. The movie will be the final superhero blockbuster released in 2022 (thanks to another round of release date delays affecting Warner Bros.' DCEU), and all signs point to it wrapping up what has proven to be a hit-and-miss year in style.

Since Eternals was released to negative reviews last November, Marvel Studios appears to have made cutting back the runtimes of its movies a priority. While there's nothing wrong with tightening these stories up a little, movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder actually felt too short when all was said and done.

There's a chance that Disney CEO Bob Chapek is responsible as he looks to increase the studio's profits (a shorter runtime means a movie can play on a greater number of screens in a day). Regardless, it doesn't sound like the Black Panther sequel will be cutting any corners.

According to a listing on Cineplex, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will clock in at 2 hours and 41 minutes. That makes it longer than Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the second lengthiest Marvel Studios movie after Avengers: Endgame.

Given everything this sequel needs to tackle - from T'Challa's death to the new Black Panther and Namor the Submariner's MCU debut - this feels like a fitting runtime. Nothing is confirmed quite yet, of course, though we're hearing that tickets for the movie go on sale next Monday.

If accurate, expect an official runtime to surface shortly as theaters start figuring out timings. Hopefully, we'll have more on that front to share with you soon, but Marvel Studios is bound to begin pulling out all the stops to build excitement for the movie over the coming weeks.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters on November 11!

The Batman showed me a movie can be 3 hrs, and not even feel like a slog. Infinity War did too. But the pacing has to be pristine, so I hope they can pull it off with BP2.

Because there's nothing worse than a movie you just want to end, but it's still going.

@KWilly - personally, whilst I enjoyed it, I thought The Batman was about an hour too long

@KWilly - I liked The Batman a lot. But it was needlessly too long.

@KWilly - The Batman was 20 minutes too long. I enjoyed it but it started to drag at the point when Falcone was shot.

Well shoot if Marvel cuts them down in Theatres then give the full Directors Cut a home release! What a waste of work that gets thrown out.

Both Dr Strange 2 and Thor 4 would have benefitted from some extra time to build out more. I’m hoping this movie finally gives us a great Phase 4 entry.

@TheRationalNerd - Shang-Chi was so good it eclipses the MCU for me. It was an exceptional film, Marvel or not.

@TheRationalNerd - Shang Chi is the best MCU phase 4 film. I do think the third act (Trevor and giant CGI battle) brought it down a little bit. But it is easily the best Phase 4 movie so far. I don’t know if I’d consider it great, but it was definitely good.

I always consider the Spider-Man movies separate because they are made by Sony. This one probably was great though. Specifically Peter’s journey.

I trust Ryan. The story he wants to tell probably requires the longer runtime. If Thor Love and Thunder is anything to go by, cutting large amounts of scenes that would've fleshed out characters for the sake of a shorter runtime isn't the best way to go.
