BLACK WIDOW Fan-Made Poster Imagines The Perfect Cast For THE AVENGERS Prequel

Marvel Studios has found a director for its Black Widow movie in Cate Shortland and it's now thought that it will be released in 2020. We probably won't find that out whether or not that's the case until Avengers 4 is released but we do know that this solo outing for Natasha Romanoff will be set in the past, telling the character's origin story and explaining how she became an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

That means we can probably expect to see the likes of The Winter Soldier and Hawkeye appear, something this fan-poster imagines could be the case as you can see from the impressive cast list.

The general concept of the poster is also fantastic and exactly what we should probably expect to see from Marvel's marketing department a few years from now. It's going to be very interesting seeing what Kevin Feige and company does with Black Widow in this spinoff, especially as we already know quite a bit about what led to her going from being a Russian spy to later working with Nick Fury.

What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Very creative cast they got there.

Scarlett is one of those actresses who have not aged the past 10 years. I’m looking forward to this prequel. Learning about her training. Seeing how she infiltrates the world. I wonder if it’ll be Wonder Woman esque where she’s present day and Terell’s her past?

this movie feels like a cash grab ..

@Krav - I don't know, I think a cash grab would mean a more bankable character. Black Widow merch doesn't even sell. Don't think you know the meaning of cash grab. This is more making good on an old promise to fans, like Ant-Man was. It will probably do similar numbers too.

Sign me up. Didn't even think about Winter Soldier assassination scenes. Needs Clark Gregg though!

I'd like to see it go along the lines of a jack ryan/sum of all fears vibe with an intro similar to red sparrow (Jennifer Lawrence) Really focus in on the training aspect while she encounters her first big threats and wrap that in to how she got flipped or recruited by shield. Additional heroes to come across would be a young hawkeye, fury, coulson, mr. marvel, banner (pre hulk), winter soldier, howard stark, old peggy carter....needless to say marvel has plenty to choose from.

This movie will be about 6 - 8 years too late by the time it hits the theaters. Not interested in seeing a origin story of side kick character that can be done in a 5 mins flash backs in ANY other more important movie.

Unfortunately Marvel has already jumped on the bandwagon of "women empowerment" and they also feel like they need to prove a point after success of DC's Wonder Woman

@TheOtherOn - Lots of fans have been asking for a Budapest movie since Avengers in 2012.

And ScarJo has been a leading action star for years. Don’t tell me that she’s now inspired by Gal Gadot or the DCEU lol wtf.

“Lots of fans have been asking for a Budapest movie since Avengers in 2012”

Sounds like the Solo movie and the 30 fans who wanted to know how he got his last name.

@TheOtherOn - A) She's not a sidekick character. She has led several different iterations of her own comic series.

B) Even if she was a sidekick, there are lots of characters who start off as sidekicks before taking center stage: Dick Grayson, Bucky Barnes, Wally West, Sam Wilson, etc.

C) Any origin story can be done in a 5 minute flashback. Burton did that with Batman. Then Nolan turned that story into one of the best superhero films ever made. The ability to do it quickly doesn't negate the potential to make it into a great story when you take the time to explore it more deeply and creatively.

D) Define "important movie." Some people seem to value the big crossovers and crossover setups over the smaller character stories, but this universe is meant to serve the characters, not the other way around. Spider-man Homecoming doesn't really introduce any big concepts to the universe or drastically alter the trajectory of Peter Parker from what we could have assumed based on Civil War. But it's one of the best MCU movies. Compare that to the divisive but "important" Age of Ultron. I'll take more a Homecoming over an Ultron. Good movies that do something different narratively, tonally, and stylistically are "important" to the continued success of the MCU. Black Widow has the potential to be that.

E) Whenever I see people complaining about feminism or female empowerment, I have to roll my eyes. Clearly you've got some larger insecurities and issues that go beyond movies causing you to be defensive and push back whenever something like this comes up. Marvel has announced two female led films after making 20 films over a period of a decade with no female leads. But two women in starring roles! Oh my gosh! Clearly they've been infiltrated by that dastardly feminist movement and are making these just to have more women! Because they can't possibly see the value and potential of these stories and feel that the element of representation is a bonus that comes along with that. Better get ready for the climax of Avengers 4 when Captain Marvel uses the infinity gauntlet to turn all the men into female versions of themselves because clearly that must be where we're heading!

I’m thinking Feige wanted a female director to helm a Marvel movie after 20 movies.

Maybe they can get Dicaprio to play that first gun..and Michael Madsen to play the other one ?

@LordHarryLatts - I hear Daniel Day-Lewis has been itching to play a spider. But with no CGI. Just simple prosthetics and method acting to really make you believe it.

Agents, assassins, espionage, spy, super spies, & crazy action scenes!

Black Widow movie better be on par or better for me to watch and I do enjoy Marvel movies but there's a line.

@Cayde6 - What I can't deny, does worry me A LITTLE about this Fallout movie, there's the "I don't trust anyone outside this room, so we're going rogue here"... (another character then states) "If you do go rogue, he's been authorized to hunt you down and kill you"

C'mon guys, this is like one of the constant themes of the whole damn series, could we maybe not lean into it SO heavily this time that it's literally what the subtitle of the last entry was called??
