Scarlett Johansson On The Possibility Of A BLACK WIDOW Prequel

Scarlett Johansson (who plays Black Widow in Marvel's The Avengers) discusses details of a potential Black Widow spin-off and how it would play out.

After only one day of being released in the US, Scarlett Johansson seems eager to slip back into her superhero tight Black Widow costume while discussing the potential for her own spin-off.

She talked about what needs to be done to make it happen and how fans would be able to watch Natasha Romanoff evolve into the Black Widow:

“I love her origin story. I think it’s just such a riveting one… It’s just steeped in history and the richness to shoot in Russia, perhaps. … I hope that the fans’ voice is loud enough and they want to see a Widow origin story, I know Marvel would be happy to entertain that. We’ve spoken a lot about it.”

She also goes on to talk about how much Natasha has been filled out since Iron Man 2:

“[In Avengers] you see a little bit about how Natasha joined and it’s not that she’s fighting for the greater good of humanity. She was almost salvaged by S.H.I.E.L.D. and so she’s loyal to that group, to that agency, but only as sort of paid debt.”

That being said, would you like to see a Black Widow prequel?

You know how female spin offs end (Electra and Catwoman) lol.

I would like to see a prequel.

Did anyone read her comic book Black Widow Strikes? I liked it, it takes place after Iron Man 2 and before The Avengers.

I wouldn't like this, this is where Marvel needs to be smart with what to do next. We don't need her back story, let's keep things moving forward not backwards. In that one scene with Loki we established what we needed to know about her a prequel isn't needed.

I liked her much more in The Avengers than I did in IM2. But I'd rather not have anytime used on any kind of SHIELD/Widow/Nick Fury movie for now. Though a Widow prequel could be used to bring in Winter Soldier.

I would say YES to a Black Widow movie if Marvel would make more than 2 every summer. There's really no reason why they shouldn't ... but if they insist on only 2, then I don't see room for a BW movie anytime soon.

I say yes!
Bring her back for sequels and her own origin!
I would love to see it all go down....LOTS of sexy kick-assery going on there!

I think if done correctly, it would be awesome!

I think Marvel should stick to their heroes and not Shield or their agents. Not saying I disliked Widow or Hawkeye but i went to the movie to see Hulk, Cap, Thor, and IM

You know, I'd actually be down for this if Hawkeye was thrown in.
Mild SPOILER WARNING: I feel like the movie could be centered on her but include him the way that Tommy Lee Jones plays an important role in the fugitive.

I don't see this being a big budget film if it happens at all. Black Widow was a character that couldn't even carry her own title until 2010 in comic books and has been around since 1964.

A black widow movie would be great but I'd prefer a sort of black widow/hawkeye maybe have black widow being hunted down by the Russian in the avengers (but younger) for doing something to be named later. Young nick fury(cgi) sends hawkeye to hunt her down but half way through he saves her she falls for him blah blah black widow bare blah she joins

That way the Russian in avengers means something and not just for us fanboys
And we see more hawkeye and fury and also agent hill and the man himself

AGENT COULSON

No thanks. i'd rather see Namor, Black Panther, Ant Man and Wasp, Ms Marvel, any number of others before a Black Widow or SHIELD movie.

I'm down. Simply for the fact that in her film there will be a search for something that ressurects the dead. This'll set up an attempt to bring back Phil Coulson in a later MCU installment. If they can do it in the pages, why not do it on the silver screen?

Personally, I would love it. But I'd rather see a SHIELD movie with origins for each character like fury, widow, and hawkeye. If she had her own spinoff I'd like it to be the Bourne series but with Natasha.

She'd have to get a Russian accent and create a dang good excuse why she doesn't have it anymore.

And Perez Hilton??? Really?

I think a good origin story as the first act could be great, and 2nd & 3rd act in the movie should be more in the present time, I'm also for hawkeye in it too !

Scarlett is a good actress !

A Black Widow film would never do well, I could only ever imagine this happening in a SHIELD origins type movie. I think it'd be awesome seeing a film focussing on how Coulson, Widow, Hawkeye, Maria Hill and Nick Fury joined and what not. Like a film set in the present with major flashbacks. That's why I'm really looking forward to the second Cap film as that'll be very SHIELD centric.
