SILVER & BLACK Director Provides An Update On The Progress Of The SPIDER-MAN Spinoff
Following reports that the film had been delayed indefinitely, director Gina Prince-Bythewood has provided an update on the progress of Sony's female-led Spider-Man spinoff Silver & Black. Check it out...
Fans will get to see Gina Prince-Bythewood’s first Marvel-related project when the pilot she helmed for Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger airs next month, but it’s entirely possible the director will get a second chance to tackle some Marvel characters with Sony’s Silver & Black.
The Spider-Man spinoff, which will follow the characters of Silver Sable and Black Cat, was originally scheduled to begin shooting this past March with the goal of hitting theaters early next year. However, reports soon emerged that the film’s production had been delayed indefinitely. And, while Venom may be aiming for a release date later this year, we've heard little about its fellow spinoff.
Now, in an interview with Screen Rant, the Silver & Black director has provided an update on the movie's progress, revealing what they are currently focusing on.
“The update is just really pounding out the script,” Gina Prince-Bythewood said, before further stressing the importance of nailing the story. “It all starts with the script. You gotta have a great script so we want to make sure that's right before we jump in.”
The fact that the folks working on Silver & Black are still putting a lot of effort in developing the script isn’t too surprising, especially since just before being delayed Sony recruited Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) to pen a new draft. Also, prior to this, Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Lisa Joy (Westworld) worked on a version of the script.
So, while this means Silver & Black hasn’t progressed too far since last reports, this statement from the director strongly suggests Sony still has plans to move forward with the spinoff.
