Silver & Black went through quite the journey; initially, it was going to be a team-up movie bringing Silver Sable and Black Cat together as an unlikely duo. Later, the decision was made to give each character their own solo outings, though it's since become clear that neither project is a priority for Sony Pictures.
Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Old Guard) had been tasked with helming the team-up, while Lindsey Anderson Beer was, at one stage, writing the screenplay.
Talking to ComicBook.com about her directorial debut, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, Beer shared her belief that Sony has completely shelved its plans for a Silver Sable project. "It was something that Sony was looking at and then, as far as I know, is not currently developing," she reveals. "I had to hop off that to another project at the time. I was only on it as - people hire writers as, it's called a 'weekly,' I was helping them out. But yeah, I'm not sure."
In the past, we've heard that the plan was for Silver & Black to mostly revolve around Silver Sable - a bounty hunter for the U.S. Department of Justice - attempting to track down Felicia Hardy to bring her to her paymasters.
However, the two women would have found a common enemy in Dr. Mendel Stromm, with Scorpion, Tarantula, Chameleon, Tombstone, and Norman Osborn all set to appear in supporting roles.
Most interesting, though, were plans for Silver & Black to end with the two titular characters assembling an all-female team of heroes made up of Spider-Woman, Jackpot, Stunner, and Dusk. Described as a "female version of the Dirty Dozen," this was clearly meant to tease both solo projects for the characters and a future Avengers-style movie for them.
Talking in 2020 about the project, Prince-Bythewood said, "First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two. Now, there's a thought of, 'Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,' but I loved it more as a film with the two of them. So, my hope is that one day it can still happen."
While both Silver Sable and Black Cat deserve the chance to shine on screen, they'd be better served as part of Marvel Studios' next Spider-Man trilogy. Spin-offs without the web-slinger simply don't make sense and the majority of fans seemed perfectly fine when the team-up was scrapped.
