BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Is The Only 2022 MCU Movie To Be "Certified Fresh" On Rotten Tomatoes

Though only one Marvel Studios theatrical release has ever dropped to "Rotten," only Black Panther: Wakanda Forever managed to achieve "Certified Fresh" status on Rotten Tomatoes this year...

Though its score did drop a little after a slightly more negative second wave of reviews, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes - and is the only Marvel Studios theatrical release of 2022 to achieve this distinction.

For a widely-released movie to be certified fresh on the review aggregator, it must have a consistent Tomatometer score of 75% or higher. Ryan Coogler's sequel currently sits at 84%, with Thor: Love and Thunder at 64%, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness just missing out at 74%.

Wakanda Forever's consensus reads: "A poignant tribute that satisfyingly moves the franchise forward, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marks an ambitious and emotionally rewarding triumph for the MCU."

Reviews don't matter to everyone, of course, and while many won't see this as anything close to a big deal, it could be viewed as being indicative of what some consider to be a relatively disappointing Phase 4.

Though there are a few notable exceptions, the majority of MCU films sit at 79% or higher on the site. To date, only last year's Eternals has dropped to "Rotten" status.

Have you been to see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever yet? If so, what did you think? (you can check out our review here).

In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda. Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.

Doctor Strange And The MultiVerse Of Madness was my favourite comic book movie of 2022 but I like The Batman as well, maybe that's the best comic book movie of 2022.

I'll have to watch both again.

Namor was the only part of the movie I liked. Whoever signed off on the awful design of the new suits in the film needs firing.

@leethario - you mean the comic writers? Because most of the suits are directly from there

I have to say despite some weak Phase 4 entries. It had quite a few top notch entries that kept the momentum. Loki, WandaVision, Moon Knight, Spider-man No Way Home, Shang Chi, Ms. Marvel, What If, Multiverse of Madness, and Wakanda Forever were all solid. The rest that I didn't mention from Phase 4 were definitely weak and didn't keep the momentum. And this is all just my opinion.

@SonOfAGif - Phase 4 is plenty awesome. It’s a literal new phase, and it’s very different, but make no mistake, this is still the awesome epic MCU.

@SonOfAGif - I have zero expectations or preferences, so I'm never disappointed.
