We have some new promo art, a magazine cover, and an official still for the upcoming Blue Beetle movie here, along with some new quotes from star Xolo Maridueña.
The images all spotlight Jaime Reyes in his Scarab armor (both masked and unmasked), while the Cobra Kai breakout explains to Empire Magazine why he believes the potentially “world-destroying weapon” he sports in the movie will stand out from the rest of the suits and costumes other heroes have donned over the years.
“The suit is just incredible,” Maridueña tells the mag. “It’s the coolest suit there is. After watching the movie and seeing the CGI, I was like, ‘Alright, now it’s set in stone. It’s the coolest suit.’”
We recently got confirmation that Blue Beetle will be the first official(?) DCU movie, so, depending on how it performs at the box office, we can expect to see Reyes in the shared universe currently being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
"Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it," reads the synopsis. "As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab."
"When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero Blue Beetle."
The cast also includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, and Raoul Max Trujillo.
Blue Beetle is set to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
