Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto has announced that principal photography on the upcoming DC Comics adventure has now wrapped, and we have a first look at the movie's colorful title logo. In addition, cast member Bruna Marquezine has shared a new behind-the-scenes shot featuring Xolo Maridueña as Jamie Reyes in his superhero costume.
This is just our latest look at the Cobra Kai star's comic-accurate outfit, as some revealing photos and videos from the set did the rounds online back in May.
Blue Beetle is expected to be part of the Warner Bros./DC SDCC lineup this weekend, but we don't know if any footage will actually screen. Even if a teaser is shown, it will more than likely be for attendees only.
Sharon Stone is set to play a newly created character named Victoria Kord, but a rumor that Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis will play her son, Ted Kord, has now been debunked. Brazilian newcomer Marquezine will play the female lead and Reyes' love interest Penny, with Belissa Escobedo (Sex Appeal, American Horror Stories) as Jaime's younger sister Milagros Reyes. Harvey Guillen’s (What We Do In The Shadows) role is currently being kept under wraps.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, the film will focus on Maridueña's take on Reyes, who was introduced back in 2006's Infinite Crisis. The Mexican-American teen was actually the third character to take up the mantle of Blue Beetle after Dan Garret and Ted Kord - although he's arguably eclipsed both in popularity since. Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer penned the screenplay, and John Rickard is on board as producer.
The movie was originally being developed as a HBO Max exclusive, but we recently found out that The DCEU's first Latino lead hero will make his feature debut on the big screen on August 18, 2023.
