Wow. We all expected Captain America: The Winter Soldier to do well at the box office, but with predictions of a domestic opening of $95 -$100 million, the movie is exceeding everyone's expectations. You can get more details on the sequel's North American debut by clickng here. For now, check out the worldwide update courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.

Overseas, where it opened ahead of its North American launch, the $170 million tentpole has already earned $132.2 million and should finish Sunday with a whopping global total of $270 million or more -- only $100 million behind the $370.6 million earned by Captain America: The First Avenger in its entire run. So far, Captain America 2 is pacing 40 percent ahead of the first film, which debuted in May 2011.

Just take a second to think about that. After being released in a handful of countries for the past couple of weeks and in North America for just a few days, the Marvel Studios sequel will be just $100 million shy of what the first movie made during its release. Marvel's dominance in theatres is hard to rival, and one can only imagine the kind of success that Captain America 3 and Thor 3 will find after the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Could we be loking at a future where all of their releases make $1 billion or more?! Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on this news below!

Remarkable. The overall growth between the first movie and the sequel is something to applaud. The MCU monster is getting bigger and bigger.

I enjoyed Iron Man 3, but out of all the phase 2 films, this one deserves to hit the billion mark out of them all.

Great movie. Deserves it....
James Cameron better deliver on Avatar 2 and 3 because with the momentum Marvel movies are building, Avengers II is most likely going to claim that top spot from Avatar

Not sure it'll have the legs to reach $1 billion, but it'll certainly come close. But if it does, just like Iron Man 3, it deserves it! It almost requires repeat viewings so that'll definitely help in the box office, but it'll really depend if it faces any stiff competition in the upcoming weeks.

Really, Congrats to Marvel and all involved...Russos, absolutely killed it...Evans IS the Captain for me now, like RDJ is Stark...After seeing it twice now, my tune has changed about not wanting a Widow solo movie, ScarJo was great too! Her and Hawkeye in their own movie, Bourne/Salt like, would rule...

I loved the very first fight scene. That shit was like Mortal Kombat. I mean, I'm not comparing it to the first MK movie, but those fight scenes were beast.
