The good folks from Latino Review, who have gained quite a track record with scoops related to Marvel Studios’ big screen installments, have now disclosed new casting and character info for Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The site has revealed that despite The Winter Soldier’s female lead shortlist including Emilia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, and Alison Brie, Marvel has “the most traction with” Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Also, there are apparently two undisclosed male roles that duo directors Joe and Anthony Russo are in the process of casting. Possibly villains, the American and foreign roles are both described as being “physical.” And the actors that’re on the shortlist for the role(s) is Game of ThronesNikolaj Coster Waldau and Josh Holloway. While those two are expected to be screen-tested, Latino Review also reports that X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor Kevin Durand may also be considered, even though that possibility is “clinging to edge.”

Moving on to Guardians of the Galaxy, Latino Review ultimately reports that the visual appearance and backstories for Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax The Destroyer are getting updated to fit into the Marvel cinematic Universe. Further claiming that Thanos will villainize The Avengers in Joss Whedon’s 2015 sequel, Gamora and Drax’s backstories are mainly getting updates due to their connection with the Mad Titan. What do you think?

Described as a political thriller, Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where the highly anticipated film “Marvel’s The Avengers” leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D, and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.

Starring Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joe Russo & Anthony Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “Captain America” first published in 1941 and a comics institution ever since. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. And in addition, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014; and the untitled “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel on May 1, 2015.

It seems you might get your wish with Mary being in Marvel film. Too bad it ain't the role you wanted her in.

Crossbones wears a mask, so it shouldn't matter too much. Just get a physical actor who can actually act. I like those picks.

Seriously, this is some good news. Nikolaj Coster Waldau? I had that idea for Zemo months ago...this could be a dream come true.

Nikolaj was great in Lost, I could see him as Zemo. What a horrible individual he played on Lost. Josh could bulk up and play Crossbones. He also played on one of the best episodes of Community. So I'm not surprised he's in the running for this Russo helmed film.

The casting looks great so far. Except Winstead... I can see Durand as some cun'ty meathead guy. But Winstead's a charisma vacuum. Please let her get kicked out of this.

Considering that Coster-Waldau already has turned down one superhero movie(Xmen-2) in the past because he didn't wan't to wear all that make-up that was required, i consinder it less likely that he will say yes to this movie. But i hope he do however.

Cool that Marvel is beginning to recognize the talent of Danish actors. First Mads Mikkelsen(Although he couldn't do it) in Thor:Dark World, and now Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Both actors which has meet on screen before, in the danish movie Vildspor, where they were brothers.

Now I can actually see Mary playing Sharon Carter for some reason if she got casted. I still want it to be Hayley tho. As far a the GotG news, im not surprised, but then again. Dont their origins already connect with Thanos?

@JerBear I guess I am trying to understand what "update" really means. if the backstory is going to stay the same what exactly are they "updating" and why would they reference their relationship with thanos? I was just stating that that info is making me nervous that they're going to change it.

Felt the need to recommend this danish classic.

Vildspor:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0142964/

Forget the rating on imdb, the movie is great and the rating is only so low, because it isn't many danes who vote on imdb.
