CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Enlists MOON KNIGHT Writer For Reshoots

Captain America: Brave New World has plenty of time before it hits theaters in 2025, and Marvel Studios has now hired Matthew Orton (Moon Knight) to pen additional material for scheduled reshoots...

Marvel Studios recently reshuffled its release schedule, pushing all but one of its 2024 movies (Deadpool 3) into 2025, including Captain America: Brave New World (FKA Captain America: New World Order).

The delay was primarily due to the Hollywood strikes, but a follow-up report claimed that the latest Captain America adventure did not go over particularly well in test screenings. Apparently, three key sequences were cut, with reshoots said to be planned from January until May/June of next year.

Now, Deadline has confirmed that additional photography has been scheduled, and Marvel has enlisted Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton to pen new scenes and material for the film.

Reshoots are the norm (especially for major studio tentpoles), but this extensive period of AP has led to speculation that the studio might be making some significant changes to the story (Deadline's report doesn't specify).

One rumor points to the movie's action sequences being the biggest issue, so it's possible these reshoots are simply to beef up existing scenes or add some new set pieces.

The fourth Captain America movie started shooting on March 21 at Trilith Studios, Atlanta, before moving to Washington, DC. The strikes previously impacted several other Marvel Studios productions, but we thought Brave New World had managed to avoid any significant delays.

We've seen quite a few set photos do the rounds online, some of which featured members of the villainous group known as the Serpent Society. We also got a look at Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) suited-up in his new Cap costume, and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) sporting a fairly comic-accurate outfit as the MCU's new Falcon.

Anthony Mackie will reprise his The Falcon and the Winter Soldier role as new Sentinel of Liberty, Sam Wilson, and he'll be joined by Shira Haas as Israeli superheroine Sabra, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, and Harrison Ford as "Thunderbolt" Ross.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but rumor has it the story will see Samuel Sterns revealed as the "secret benefactor" behind the Serpent Society. What this will entail is not clear, but we assume he'll be funding the group and possibly providing them with tech.

Does this mean the Leader will only have a small role in the sequel, pulling strings from the shadows? It's hard to say for sure, but Brave New World is shaping up to be a fairly jam-packed movie, so we wouldn't rule it out.

LOL what a goddamn mess. Maybe this will turn out well but considering how mid Moon Knight ended up being despite having two powerhouses like Hawke and Issac? I don’t have high hopes lol

@TheLobster -

Yup. As much as I hope for this to be good,

@TheLobster - not to mention hiring a new writing for the reshoots. Means something is again not working and they are trying to pivot.

@Ryguy88 - yup and this is [frick]ing Captain America we are talking about here. This is essentially a follow up to what can be argued is the absolute best stand alone trilogy in the MCU so there’s a lot on the line. If Marvel [frick]s this up, it’s just another nail in the coffin, and even for how arrogant they usually are - they have to be aware of this.

Ya know in the comics for both DC and marvel, whenever some iteration of a “universe” gets too convoluted, messy, and disliked, they would usually do a reset.

Mayyyyybe just skip to secret wars now and get it over with? Seriously, screw thunderbolts and whatever else that needs to be filmed prior to secret wars. Save fantastic four for post-reset because, damn it, they deserve better after “F4ntastic”

"Save fantastic four for post-reset"

Agreed. Deadpool 3 then Avengers VS X-Men, then Secret Wars with a full reboot.

Ideally after Secret Wars we get a full reboot and wait a year or two and we start off a new MCU with Fantastic Four, Daredevil and Blade.

Slowly introduce new heroes and spend a while building them up then do crossovers:
Cosmic - Arrival of Galactus, Annihilation Wave
Street Level - Heroes For Hire, Defenders, Dark Reign
Supernatural - Midnight Suns, Howling Commandos, Strange Academy

Moon Knight was terribly written so this doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

It just seems like Feige and Marvel are completely lost

No direction, Total Mess

And I don't see how they get out of it

THe Multiverse Saga has been a complete disaster and Deadpool 3 will ruin the Hype for a new X-Men in the MCU

The only solution I see is a total reboot

With a new Captain America, Iron Man and T' Challa Black Panther

@WakandaTech - actually think a full reboot could be extremely brand damaging.

It's not re-shoots in the normal sense, similar to Daredevil Born Again the practically finished product is getting completely discarded and they are redoing it again from scratch.

Unlike some here , I’m not gonna panic & doomsay over rumors and especially not until I see the final product so reserving judgement till then on this.

Anyway , interesting choice since he only has had 2 credits to his name if I’m not mistaken…

One is Operation Finale which got a mixed-positive critical & audience reception while the other is one episode of Moon Knight which he co-wrote and was the backstory episode which was considered the best of that show.

Anyway , hope this turns out well since I’m looking forward to it!!.

Lets be honest. This movie had no real chance. It was a stretch either way. I think Marvel underestimated how attached the audience were to Evans and RJD as characters. This movie would have had the same issue if hey just kept him as Falcon. Post Endgame, the audience has just not attached themselves to these new characters. Its a lot to invest in a character for a person. They really should have slow rolled this with maybe half the original 6 and Evans and RDJ in smaller roles to pass the torch.

Looks like a financial L either way if they are pouring this much money into it. Ford is a great actor but he couldnt even save his own Indy movie.

@AvalonX - yeah, that's a good point. I think Feige thought the character was the star but with those two it was the actors.

@MadThanos - I think the character is the star. I just don't think the general audience accepts mantle passing. At least not yet?
EgoEgor
EgoEgor - 12/13/2023, 6:35 PM
@AvalonX - Lets also be honest about the fact that Captain America and Iron Man were not household names. There's a reason other studios bought out Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four. The thing they have to do is make good films and people will respond; which is what happened to these characters. Iron Man is still one of the top MCU films, so is Captain America 2 and 3. Give these characters good stories that have something universal and timely to say. What's the iconic movie quote, "If you build, [they] will come". They've built pretty poor films as of late.
