Robert Downey Jr. Joins The Cast Of CAPTAIN AMERICA 3; Movie Will Adapt CIVIL WAR

That's right! In a HUGE piece of news, it has been revealed this evening that Captain America 3 will pit Captain America (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) as the two butt heads over the Superhuman Registration Act in an adaptation of Civil War. Read on for details!

Marvel never fail to surprise us, and Variety are reporting that Robert Downey Jr. is about to sign a deal which will bring Civil War (or at least the start of it) to the big screen in Captain America 3. The site reveals that the movie will kick off a new phase for Marvel Studios and that the follow-up to Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be in addition to Downey's prior commitment to a third Avengers movie, hence why a new deal is being negotiated. According to their sources, his role was initially set to be very small - with only a few weeks of filming required - but the actor wanted to take on a larger role, something which apparently angered eccentric Marvel Entertainment Chief Ike Perlmutter, who ordered the screenwriters to write Iron Man out of the script entirely.

This was soon resolved however, and kicking off Civil War here will "drive the plots of sequels and new franchises for the next seven years" as Tony Stark's actions will have huge ramifications for a FOURTH Avengers movie which will possibly see the likes of Ant-Man and Doctor Strange assemble as a new team. Downey will earn $40 million for his role here (plus backend), so it's obviously a major deal for him and should really shake things up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The storyline of the movie? It's sticking pretty close to the comics by the sound of things as they add that, "the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities. Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in “Captain America 3,” providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth “Avengers.”" Could this be why there's all that talk of Spider-Man being rented out to Marvel? Will 2016 see movies called Batman v Superman AND Captain America v Iron Man in theaters? How do you guys feel about this news? Be sure to share your thoughts below.

It won't be a direct adaptation of Civil War obviously. A smaller scale one, but awesome.

Pasto, Gotham was terrible again tonight, nothing was ruined...seriously, Cop is protecting mayor from assassination, [frick]ing walks out the front door like he's opening it for a girl scout, too many wtf moments...anyways this is crazy, no wonder why Marvel wasn't afraud to take BvS on...

This is TOO MUCH to handle. I've always believed that Civil War could be adopted and it wouldn't need to have all these characters. They could literally use what they've got for the beginning of the story, and evolve it into something bigger. And how cool would it be to have them reunite in the end to defeat THANOS?!

Man, DOFP was so good I definitely wouldn't put it behind Cap 3. Equal level.

I'm happy but sad at the same time. I'm happy because they're finally adapting Civil War but I'm also sad that we won't get a Secret Avengers esque type of Captain America movie with the likes of Hawkeye, Romanoff, Falcon and the Winter Soldier going against the Masters of Evil or Baron Zemo.
