While not revealing a whole lot about the upcoming film
Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Evans did re-confirm that Robert Redford will be in the film and he also gave his assessment of the actor.
Evans on Robert Redford
“He’s unbelievable, he’s amazing. I mean, he’s Robert Redford–he’s an icon!”
“I grew up on Jeremiah Johnson, which was a huge movie from my youth. He’s just so fantastic. You know, sometimes you work with people who are of that status that don’t quite live up and it’s really depressing….Sometimes you meet people and it’s a disappointment. And he’s just so fantastic–he’s not just a great actor; he’s a great director. I mean, he’s done so many things. He showed up on the set for our movie so prepared and so professional and just…it’s like it was his first job. It’s really inspiring.”
Evans on Iron Man 3
“I haven’t seen it yet,” “I hear it’s really good.”
Later on in the show comic book writer Kevin Smith came on wearing his orange and blue hockey jersey.
Kevin Smith on Chris Evans
"I got hugged by Captain America!”
“When you get on The Tonight Show, you’re like ‘This is going to be awesome because every ex-girlfriend I ever had now has to reevaluate me.’ They sit there and they go, ‘I regret letting him go,’ and then you put me next to Captain America, dude. That’s tough! It’s real tough to sit next to a man that attractive. It’s like Captain America and the real America.”
“This is the first time we actually met and embraced and stuff, I followed you on a radio show in San Diego and me and Jason Mewes were there to be the next guests. He was there to be interviewed and stuff–there was a little window between studios. We came in and Mewes starts futzing with everything, pushing levers and buttons – and the lady presses the button that lets his voice go into the room. [Evans] is chatting with the radio hosts and his buddies and stuff and all of a sudden Mewes’s voice comes in and he’s like ‘Oo, oo, oo, Captain America.’ All the dudes on the show, they’re facing the windows so they see Mewes, they’re like ‘ah, it’s that dude from Clerks. And then Captain America turns around, stone cold, like this, so harsh that I was like, ‘He’s gonna whip a shield at you, dude.'”
Evans then laughed, Kevin Smith then said
"That day I thought you were a bully, but today... Today you are a hero"
