Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 Beats Captain America To The Top Of The UK Box Office!

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 Beats Captain America To The Top Of The UK Box Office!

In some disappointing, yet somewhat unsurprising news, the final Harry Potter movie stopped Captain America taking the #1 spot in the UK by making nearly twice as much! Details after the jump...

Digital Spy report that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has managed to stop the latest movie from Marvel Studios, Captain America: The First Avenger from reaching the #1 spot at the UK box office. Coming in at the top spot for a third consecutive week, the boy wizard's reign was unfortunately not brought to an end by the super soldier.

The site also point out that the £2,981,590 made by Captain America falls well short of THOR and X-Men: First Class which both opened to £5.4 million. Of course, that's hardly surprising as both of them opened up to very little competition, and certainly nothing matching the hugely popular Potter franchise. The last movie in the series took in £4,567,581.

STARRING:

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Sebastian Stan as Bucky
Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter
Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt/Red Skull
Toby Jones as Arnim Zola
Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine
Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips
Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark
Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan
JJ Field as Union Jack
Derek Luke as Gabe Jones
Kenneth Choi as Jim Morita

RELEASE DATE: July 22nd, 2011. (US) July 29th, 2011. (UK)

Not surprising at all. Let's see how Cap will do next week worldwide. So far, it's doing pretty good.

Its not surprising really, Potter originated in the UK and Captain America will obviously have a larger appeal to American audiences. Don't get me wrong, I was there opening night of Cap in the UK and I loved it!

Such a shame...I am disappointed in my fellow Brits, lol. Why the [frick] didn't they go and see Potter when it came out a few weeks back?! Regardless, this is close to $5 million, so that's a decent enough contribution to it's overall takings I suppose! :)

N@ Wow someone is just jealous that Potter is doing better than Cap. Harry Potter is by no means a shitty movie or series.

At least Cap beat HP in America. since HP is British, of course he'd beat the shit outta Cap in England.

Seen both, like both.

That's not bad for Caps when he isn't as well known as the Supermans/Batmans/Spidermans etc however would a Captain Britain sell well in the US?

Thor opened to about $9M USD compared to Cap's $5M.

Since Thor grossed about 22.5M, I don't think it's far off to say that Cap grosses about 13M in the UK.

Disappointing news but not surprising. I'm from the UK and I was really surprised that all the cinemas in my area had hardly any screenings of Captain America whereas Harry Potter still had loads! And this was C.A.'s opening weekend! I dunno whether Marvel Studios screwed the pooch here or whether UK cinemas just didn't want to show C.A. as much as HP, but it's very telling!

"At least Cap beat HP in America."

Did it...

I thought HP smashed Cap, 1st weekend and first week figures in US?

unless you mean by knocking it off no.1 (which i believe smurfs & C&A just did to cap...)

I just love how us English always get called British you would'nt call a Scot, welshman or Irishman a brit (unless his Andy Murray).

Anyway I wouldnt worry to much as the schools are out for the summer holidays so may see more kids going weekdays to the cinema rather than the weekends!!.

" HAHAHAH!!!!!Brits love the little homo with a wand. What a bunch of pampas ass holes. Guess they don’t want to be reminded that America stole their little Empires’ thunder. Fu Ck the rest of the world, and yes I’m an ugly American who don’t give a shit what you think. Stick to your fag monarchies and watch those useless [frick]s be rich and spoiled at your country’s’ expense. "

see this statement is more representative of America, now if Cap had been played by Michael Moore then it would be more believable...

or if maybe S Rogers was an Obese kid going into the super weight loss program...
